I need help with the reading of my 6th Great aunt’s baptism, Maria de Ornelas.

It seems to list several godmothers ? I’m definitively lost in the grammar.

Here’s the link to the record and the record at the bottom of the left side of the page. http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-ALTARES-B-1708-1723/TER-AH-ALTARES-B-1708-1723_item1/P4.htm

This is what I see

For godparents Antonia Coelho, Maria Coelho, children of Joao Goncalves de Ornelas (which is Maria’s (the baby’s) grandfather so these would be her aunts and thus my 7th Great Aunts) ?eo padrinhro, daughter of Beatriz de Melo (grandmother of Maria, the Baby, and Joao’s wife) ?e a godmother daughter of Maria Coelho ? same Joao Goncalves de Ornelas, deceased.

Now in my database I have Joao and Beatriz’ daughter Maria but I do not have another daughter named Antonia. I do have a son named Antonio. Now Joao had another wife named Maria Coelho so maybe this is information on her?

Thanks, Doreen Caetano

Here is the complete link http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-ALTARES-B-1708-1723/TER-AH-ALTARES-B-1708-1723_item1/P4.html (Doreen truncated the L from the end)

This is a twisted group of names and the only way I can make sense of it is that the priest must have meant Antonio even though it looks like Antonia (Padrinho is always listed first and I'v never seen two madrinhas)

What I think it is saying (in my words) is that the Padrinhos are Antonio Coelho and Maria Coelho, both children of João Gonçalves de Ornelas.  Antonio, the godfather, is the son of Beatriz de Mello who was a wife of João and Maria, the godmother was his half-sister who was  daughter of another of João wives, Maria Coelho.  João and both of these wife are deceased.

Since you are familiar with this family tree, perhaps you know if this makes any sense.
