Hi!

Does someone know the history of Viveiros family?
Most of them are from Capelas and Santo Antônio.
I think they are all from the same family that came from Madeira, and I have no clue from where they came before it.

For Sao Miguel island, Viveiros can be found in many, many places. Also, the surnames are not handed down in American fashion. Have you traced your Vivieros family from Capelas and Santo Antonio to Madeira yet?

You're specifying a last name that can have different meanings according to its origin, and defining a very narrow range when it comes to the regions.
Each family has a different story/background/region. To study it is to know it and not make the mistake of assuming something is like everything else.
If you Google "apelido viveiros" on Google.pt you'll get the picture.

Hi Adri,
My name is Elaine (Costa) Silvia. My great grand parents were Viveiros. My great grandmother was born in Capelas. I have lots of information but I would appreciate  you contacting me at the above email address. I would love to know if or how we are related

The Carlos Machado Data of Sao Miguel entered by Fr. Joseph Viveiros could prove helpful.  Besides having the Viveiros families recorded by Carlos Machado he has traced his family line. Names and dates of the furthest ancestor along with location would be helpful in searching the Carlos Machado data.

And for those who are wondering, you can buy the Carlos Machado work (over 600 HUGE pages that Fr. Joe entered into his computer - assisted by John Raposo and George Pacheco) by writing a check for $50 or $60 and mailing it to George Pacheco who will cut the CD and mail it to you. It's in Gedcom format, so you will need a genealogy program (Legacy, RootsMagic, Family Tree Maker) to open it. Legacy and RootsMagic have free editions that can do this.

Contact George for the cost and address to mail the check. bretanha1954 at yahoo.com
