Hi all

Having put the constitution out on the e-group I received correspondence back from several members. I have been in contact with two of these;  David Stephenson and Mike Barbour.

After a few back and fourths using a round robin e-mail, we have made a number of amendments which, I trust, will now form the final constitution.

Please take time to read the attached document and it will also be read onto audio file. if Colin is able to get it out before the AGM we will propose the acceptance of this constitution at the AGM and it will go live from 1st January 2027.

Dear John, Dave, Mike and All

Thank you to Dave and Mike for doing the final tidying up on this.

As far as I am concerned this can go on the magazine. I have one minor question, which doesn’t affect its content as it may be my poor grammar, and I am just checking if we have a typo.

Should the semi-colon after “Treasurer” in 9.6 be a comma? Text: Any member failing to attend two consecutive Executive Committee Meetings, without good reason being notified to the Chair, Secretary or Treasurer; shall be deemed to have resigned.

I do not want a punctuation debate either.

With best regards

Well done, Stuart, for spotting this!

I’m sure John could just correct the punctuation without referring the matter to anyone.

Best wishes

Mike

Hi John,

Sorry to be a pain but, I seem to remember from the suggestions that dissolving the association no later than the following January 1st must be changed.

If the general meeting which approves this is held in say November or later this would not leave enough time for the committee to organise it.

I seem to remember that it should be completed no later than six months after the general meeting.  This would be reasonable.  It took quite a while to dissolve NTE when that happened.

Please check this.

Regards

Martyn

I will take a look later, but if it is clear then probably no point in changing it. Cheers Lisa.

Hi Martin,
I take your point however there was a very subtle difference between NTE and ourselves not only in size but in complexity i.e. staff et cetera.

I actually think we could probably dissolve disassociation in as little as four weeks. We have no outstanding debts as we do not have any regular commitments. The The only issue would be getting peoples bank details to pay out the assets.

I will of course have a look at this clause.

Hi All

John produced a draft on 4 March, which he sent to Dave and me, following a comment I made that was very similar to what Martyn is saying.  The clause read:

*12.2.1 The retiring Executive Committee shall stay in office until the dissolution of The Association, which shall be no later than six months following the General Meeting at which The Association's dissolution was agreed.

John seems to have had second thoughts or got two versions of the draft confused, as the version of 16 March reverts to the original wording, i.e. by 1 January, rather than within six months.

Greetings,

John, Lesa, I don't think in most cases, it makes a hapeth of difference, semi-colon or comma both denote a small space, I tend to use commas unless making a list, the items of which should be separated by a semi-colon, not a comma, the last item of the list should, I was led by my English teacher (who was welsh),  be followed by a full stop.

When Martin (or whoever) reads it onto the March magazine, will probably not make any difference whilst reading the text.

Dear All

It was a simple change that was done in 2 minutes. Mike’s comment seemed to indicate the error was possibly something typographical. It is not going to make any difference to Martyn’s reading, but I think we should get it completely right as it does delay it going out on Interlink. I especially want to get rid of this in May, as much as anybody else.

John has both copies – the one circulated and the one with the corrected semi-colon to a comma.
