The deadline for the Seeding Labs/SANBio Pandemic Lab Safety Challenge has been extended to September 15! Get all the details on this virtual TeleScience challenge here.

Informa Connect is proud to announce the Global Learning Scholarship Program (GLSP), providing opportunities for scientists and researchers from low- and middle-income countries to participate in top-tier scientific conferences and advanced networking and training opportunities at no cost. Scholarships are open to students, fellows, career scientists and researchers from LMICs.

 

German Academic Exchange Service DAAD Postgraduate Programs

 

Deadline: Ongoing

Germany finances through DAAD the participation in one of the postgraduate programs after a first undergraduate course for technical or scientific specialization, a postgraduate or master's program in Germany, in the country of origin or in another foreign country.

The time of the scholarship depends on the duration of the selected program:

 

→ For a postgraduate or a master's degree completed in Germany, between 10 and 24 months

→ For a period of study in Germany as part of a postgraduate or master's degree completed in a foreign country, usually an academic year

 

The scholarship covers:

 

→ Scholarship payments of 850 euros a month

→ Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover

→ Travel allowance

→ One-off study allowance

 

Waitt Foundation Rapid Ocean Conservation (ROC) Grants Program

 

Deadline: Ongoing

The Rapid Ocean Conservation (ROC) Grants Program provides small grants with a quick turnaround time for solutions to emerging conservation issues and ocean protection. Proposals for grants up to US$10,000 will be reviewed on a monthly rolling basis. Proposals up to US$15,000 will be considered, but granted highly infrequently. Project funds will be distributed within 2 weeks of funding decisions. Grants will fund projects related to the Waitt Foundation mission of supporting sustainable fishing and marine protected areas (MPAs). Spending of grant funds must commence within 1 month of granting, and be completed within 6 months.

 

African Research Initiative for Scientific Excellence Pilot Programme

 

Deadline: 30 July 2021

The African Research Initiative for Scientific Excellence Pilot Programme (ARISE-PP) Grant is an opportunity for a talented early-career African scientist to become a principal researcher leading his or her own grant. African researchers with 2-7 years of research experience since completion of their PhD, a scientific track record showing great promise, and an excellent research proposal to conduct excellent research in an African university or research institution may apply. The call targets to award one grant per country. The maximum grant amount per grantee is a lump sum of EUR 500,000 for a period not exceeding 5 years. An ARISE grant can cover up to 100% of the total eligible direct costs of the research plus a contribution of up to 7% of the total eligible direct costs towards indirect costs.

 

TWAS-BIOTEC Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme

 

Deadline: 30 July 2021

The TWAS-BIOTEC Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme is for young scientists from developing countries (other than Thailand) who wish to pursue advanced research in biotechnology at the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) in Thailand. TWAS-BIOTEC Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable in BIOTEC and its affiliated research units for a period of twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) months.

 

NIH Chronic, Noncommunicable Diseases and Disorders Research Training

 

Deadline: 13 August 2021

This funding opportunity announcement encourages applications for the Chronic, Non-Communicable Diseases and Disorders Across the Lifespan: Fogarty International Research Training Award (NCD-LIFESPAN) D43 program for institutional research training programs in low-and middle-income countries. Application budgets are limited to US$230,000 per year for new awards and US$250,000 per year for renewal awards (total direct costs). The maximum project period is up to 5 years.

 

NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research: Tools and Technologies to Explore Nervous System Biomolecular Condensates

 

Letter of intent deadline: 15 August 2021

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement is to support the development of innovative tools and/or technologies to monitor or manipulate biomolecular condensates in vivo and enable investigators to adopt these tools to answer outstanding questions in basic neuroscience. The combined budget for direct costs for the two year project period may not exceed $275,000. No more than $200,000 may be requested in any single year. The project period may not exceed two years.

 

TWAS-NRF Doctoral Programme

 

Deadline: 20 August 2021

TWAS-NRF Doctoral Fellowships are tenable at research institutions in South Africa for a maximum period of three years. They are awarded to scientists from developing countries (other than South Africa) to enable them to pursue PhD research in the natural sciences. Awarded candidates will be provided partial cost of study funding and this will only cover tuition fees (R30 000 per annum) and accommodation costs (R60 000 per annum) for a maximum of R90 000 per annum per student. Additionally, the NRF will cover cheapest return economy flight and the visa and/or study permit costs for TWAS-NRF doctoral awarded candidates.

 

NIH Advancing Technologies to Improve Delivery of Pharmacological, Gene Editing, and Other Cargoes for HIV and SUD Mechanistic or Therapeutic Research

 

Letter of intent deadline: 25 August 2021

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to develop technologies to improve the delivery of pharmacological, gene editing, or other cargoes for HIV and SUD mechanistic research.

 

Application budgets are not limited but need to reflect the actual needs of the proposed project. The maximum project period is 5 years.

 

PACTs Fellowships for Least Developed Countries

 

Deadline: 31 August 2021

The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), the UN Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) have partnered up on an ambitious programme targeted at scientists from least developed countries to pave the way to expanding and enhancing the scientific competences of early-career researchers in LDCs. The Programme of Collaborations with LDCs (PACTs) offers early-career scientists from the 46 least developed countries (LDCs), who are aged 45 or under, exchange visits of up to six months at the ICGEB laboratories in Trieste (Italy), New Delhi (India) and Cape Town (South Africa).

 

Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany Research Grants

 

Deadline: 31 August 2021

Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany is offering a series of research grants to stimulate innovative research in challenging areas of future importance. Grants of 40,000 € - 450,000 € per year for up to 3 years are available in areas including Drug Discovery (3 grants comprising 350,000 €/year for 3 years with the option of extension) and Sustainability (grant/s to be negotiated on a case by case basis). The Research Grants program is open to scientists in all career stages who are affiliated with any research-based institution, university or company.

Pandemic Lab Safety Challenge

 

Deadline: 15 September 2021

In collaboration with the Southern Africa Network for Biosciences (SANBio), Seeding Labs is challenging scientists and students from developing countries to create videos for our online TeleScience video library in our first-ever telethon: the Pandemic Lab Safety Challenge.

With the worldwide impact of COVID-19, researchers facing a return to work have had to rapidly innovate enhanced lab safety protocols with the resources on hand.

 

This Challenge is designed to solicit videos that share creative solutions for lab safety in a time of COVID-19 that could be adopted by scientists in labs with limited resources, no matter where they might be.

 

Water Data Challenge

 

Deadline: Ongoing

The Water Data Challenge is implemented by the Global Innovation Fund (GIF), an evidence-based, venture-capital-inspired funder of scalable innovations. GIF is seeking breakthroughs that cost-effectively improve smallholder farmers’ productivity, income, or resilience; or that help to optimize water use at the system, watershed, or basin level so as to enhance resilience or promote inclusive growth. GIF can fund pilot-stage proposals (proof of concept) up to US$230,000, and test and transition (demonstration) proposals up to US$1 million.
