Hello,

I know this question has been asked before, Probably even by me.    I just cant find my results.

I just upgraded QGIS to 2.4 via OSGEO4W,  NOW when I go to run the application I get the following error over the splash screen on opening:

qgis-bin: qgis-bin.exe - Entry Point Not FOund
The Procedure Entry point ?SetRefreshCallback@CView@NCS@@QAE?AVCError@2@P6A?AW4NCSReadStatus@@PAUNCESFileViewStruct@@@Z@Z Could not be located in the dynamic link library NCSEcw.dll

QGIS still opens once I have clicked okay and it seems to work okay.  Theres just this message.

I vaguely remember the fix was very simply just a little obscure.

Is anybody able to assist me with solving this? (I THINK Nathan had the solution last time)

Regards,
David Crisp

Hey David,

How did you upgrade in OSGeo4W?  Did you grab a new installer from the site?

This error is just a mismatch between the installed version of NCSWcw.dll and GDAL.

......   Ahhhhh GDAL ........

SO yes, I grabbed a new installer from the website and upgraded.

I might know the problem:   Another version of GDAL is in my path at the moment; 1.11.0

I installed this because I was wanting to work with GDAL and Python 3.3 and OSGEO4w is only 2.7 at the moment.     I then promptly forgot that I had it installed and havent touched it since and now its breaking things.

Maybe that's what's breaking things...  Although I thought OSGEO4w and GDAL 'semi hard coded' itself into its local version of GDAL...

Regards,
David

I suspect that might be the issue.  One way to tell is to run OSGeo4W.bat and type PATH to dump the path variable, if your other gdal is there then it might be stuffing it up.

I normally don't add things like this to my global path variables. Normally I have batch files for setting up what I need in that instance.

SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\{newgdal}

call python3
..etc

I get the same error when I try and run the osgeo4w.bat file.
I check the path and other environment variables and they ALL point to the OSGEO4W directorys and none point to the c:\program files\gdal folder.

Also; version of GDAL in osgeow4 is GDAL 1.7.3

Something didn't install right there. We are at GDAL 1.11. QGIS will install it as it needs, something must have busted the install.

When you run the install try the Advanced option and select qgis-full from the Desktop section.  It should be version 2.4.0.{something}. It will install all of the stuff it needs, cycle though to select reinstall to force a reinstall.

Failing that install it into a new folder.

So,  Nuke the install from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.. [CHECK]    :)
(what's the best way of ensuring that osgeo4w is fully uninstalled and scrubbed from the system? )

I will give it a go!  Fingers crossed!

I have never had any issues with just deleting the whole folder.  This shouldn't really be needed in most cases but sometimes it's easier then working out why there is a issue in the install.

Hi David, I have been running 2.18 for a good while. I am interested in the features of the newer versions. But I too get these Entry Point Not Found dialogue boxes.
What was the fix in the end?
Regards, Ben.

As 3.10 is the new LTR is pretty strongly recommended that you jump up to those versions unless you are really really held back by something you need in 2.18.

Normally if you get a Entry Point not found error it's due to a bad install, possibly anti virus taking one of the dlls that QGIS needs to locking it away.

Thank you Nathan. I was trying to clip out 1km x 1km of 1m contour data for the city of Buderim QLD. Often the State Govt. data sets are too heavy for Vectorworks, so I can use QGIS to clip out the area of interest.
I was trying to use the Vector>Geoprocessing Tools>Clip and needed to draw the 1km square. I understand the newer version/s of QGIS enables us to draw rectangles. Instead I produced the 1km x 1km .shp file from Vectorworks and this worked a treat as the clipping vector.
I only run Windows 10 Security. I've tried previously to install a newer version of QGIS...at some point it would be good to get 3.10 working. I'll try disabling Windows security, uninstalling using the uninstall.exe and re-installing from the top. I'll let you know how it goes.
Regards, Ben.

Ben

I use MMQGIS to create a grid (not sure if you have that in your version). Drawing a 1km square is then easy, with snap to grid.

You could also use QGIS Extract/clip by extent, type in the coordinates and clip features to extent if you don't want to draw lots of polygons.

Hi Ben,

You can also use the Advanced Digitizing Tools in QGIS3.x instead of Vectorworks. This is an inbuilt tool which gives you CAD like functions in QGIS, so you can specify angles and distances. There are a few tutorials on Youtube. I’m a big fan of Klas Karlsson.

Just remember, make sure the project/layer is in GDA94 or GDA2020 Zone 56 so you get measurements in metres.

Klas has a heap of tutes on QGIS3 which might be of use as you’ll find some major differences from QGIS2

Hi Nathan et. al.,

I disabled Windows Virus and Threat protection, uninstalled 3.10.4 and re-installed. I'm still getting the damned 'Entry Point Not Found' prompt.
I'm keen to have a look at the Advanced Digitizing Tools in the current LTR as mentioned by Luke.
Any further ideas to troubleshoot will be appreciated.

Thanks Ben.
