Hi all
I have a polygon layer showing footpaths on a property. On one of these paths is a set of steps. I really want to clearly show that they are steps, not a flat path.
Can anyone suggest a way to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Edwin,

An option is to make the line a bit bolder or a unique colour and add one of these symbols on top or beside it.  Just an idea.

For that to work, you will need to convert the polygon layer to a lines layer first, and then clip the line segment to be displayed as steps.

A Google search for "map symbology stairway" shows additional options in case you want to have a look.

Hope it helps,
Juan

Hi Edwin,
Maybe draw as a set of rectangular polygons and add an arrow to show up direction as in CAD?

Thanks for the suggestions. I figured out a simpler approach - make each step a separate polygon, and use heavier outlines to display them as separate features.

I know you solved it, but I think this is too much fun not to share.
Dungeon and Dragon maps in 1980s had solved this problem this way

Just to show that DnD did it first :D

Cheers, Friðrik
