QGIS 4 is here

QGIS 4 is here so I read but has anyone used it? Is it any good?

 

Years of experience has made me wary of new software releases and their claims.

 

I’d like to find out before I migrate,

Hi Iain,

 

Many of the plug-ins have not yet been updated for version 4. Worth experimenting with the new version but not for regular production as yet. Doesn’t seem to be many changes that appear to improve my work flows – as far as I have seen to date. Still testing though.

Hi Ian

It's best to stay on 3.44 for your daily work atm - which have also a lot of cool features. QGIS v4.0 is a point release - use just for testing and exploring. Wait until the LTR 4.2 or 4.4 for adoption for your daily work.

g'day all

QGIS 4 has fixed a lot of issues I was having with 2.5 / 3D visualisation. 

I'll keep a conda-packaged 3.xx around for now also.

For me (Linux Mint Debian 7), all the GUI icons are text - which is different, and fine :).

As Emma mentioned, QGIS4 is at early adopter stage - there are things to iron out.
