Sydney’s temperature reached 42.0 at 1.25 pm -becoming one of only 10 days in the past 166 years that 42 has been reached.

The last time was in Jan 2018, almost 8 years ago.

It is also only 0.2 below the hottest December day on record which was 20 Dec 1957… so hottest in December for 68 years .

Remarkably, without  a decent  NW’er !   And yesterday, the forecasts top for today was 33 degrees .

Indeed. Looks like it might now be done for the day though.

Canberra's 39.4 (which may or may not have peaked) is its highest December temperature outside the 2019 heatwave.

Hi Don, Blair and everyone,
Just got home and checked our maximum, which was 39.8 degrees at 3.29pm. Plenty of cloud and large CB buildups earlier which have tended to dissipate in past hour, with the odd shower in the area. Nothing here so far.
Cheers,

Gavin

Hi Don,
No , it isn't as we had 40+ temperatures during the big heatwave a few years ago. I will check my records later this morning.
Cheers
Gavin
