The north-south component of Westconnex may well have the same number as the Western Harbour Tunnel and beaches Link/Wakehurst Parkway. Could be M10/A10?
Good points - assuming the F6 is M1 then M1 should continue up the Western Harbour Tunnel as this is the 'bypass' route (although do we see the 'Iron Cove Link' eventually becoming a tunnel to Wahroonga?)
M5 could be extended up Southern Cross Drive and through the City to Cammeray - or the CCT/SHB/SHT triangle could be the terminus of M4/M5/M8.
A few options, not many of which make a huge amount of sense at this stage.
I'm not sure M8 would be appropriate for the Beaches Link unless the current A8 was renumbered. Beaches Link and the Frenchs Forest hospital should surely cement Wakehurst Parkway as the primary north-south route on the beaches.

This is how I suspect the routing signage will evolve as the stages open (looking from the Gardeners Road entry/exit)*pls excuse QMR-esque design, but you should get the idea2019 - Opening of "New M5"2023 - Opening of M4 to M5 link2026(?) Opening of Western Harbour Tunnel/Beaches LinkEventually... the F6 connection hooked up

I doubt they'd go with M40. While the route connects nicely with A40 today, the intent is that it will eventually link seamlessly to the Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link, which is entirely the opposite direction of the A40.I'm also wondering what routes and names will go to "New M5" versus "M5 East". If both routes have M5 in their names but only one has the M5 route number, there will be face palms a'plenty. I'd hope the "New M5" name will never appear on signs.

- What is currently A4 between Concord Rd and White Bay will be renumbered A44
- The M4 to M5 link will become an extension of A40 and be numbered M40. The duplicate M5 tunnel will also form a glorified feeder ramp to the M5 westbound
- M5 remains as is
- The Western Distributor will become a component of the M4 corridor, thus making the former Metroad 4 fully motorway/grade separated standard.
- M1 will be extended onto the proposed F6 corridor. A36 would be extended south to Waterfall replacing A1 on the Princes Hwy through the Sutherland Shire.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned - what happens between the St Peters interchange and the CBD?
With Euston Road being the main traffic route to the inner suburbs, does it get a route number?
If yes, does it go up through Redfern to Broadway and/or the Western Distributor like the old SR66? Or does it go east across towards Randwick?
The Broadway option could terminate at A22 (or more sensibly A4), the eastern option could terminate South Dowling St (To M1)?

No other numbered route for it to terminate at, so no route number?

The Euston Road corridor to Broadway is really short and it closely parallels A36. It could extend further north to meet the Western Distributor. The Campbell Rd / Gardeners Rd corridor could have a number, but to where? There is a real lack of route numbers in the Eastern suburbs.
