Hi ATS modelers,

Have you uploaded your ATS model data to a data repository?

What difficulties do you typically have to archive ATS model data?

We are inviting you to complete an ATS User Survey on Model Data Archiving (MDA) Needs and Requests. Survey outcome is to support the ESS-DIVE Partner Project: Improving ATS model data managing and archiving standards led by Ethan Conn (ORNL) and Zhi Li (PNNL). ESS-DIVE is maintained by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and is funded by the DOE Office of Science, Biological and Environmental Research program.

Project announcement link on ESS-DIVE website: https://ess-dive.lbl.gov/2024/11/07/2024-ess-dive-partner-projects-announcement/

This anonymous survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. Your time and input are greatly appreciated and will play a key role in improving the ATS MDA experience!

You're welcome to pass along the survey link to anyone who may find it relevant.

Thanks for your help!

Zhi and Ethan

Just a quick reminder to complete the ATS MDA survey we sent out recently.
Your input is important and will help improve the ATS MDA experience!

Please also help share this with students/researchers who are currently learning or interested in learning ATS. Thank you!

Hi all, it would be a really big help to get some more responses to this.  We are trying (with an ESS DIVE Community Funds award) to define a common Model Data Archive standard.  This would become a shared format for all ATS submissions to ESS DIVE (which is a reporting requirement for any paper funded by BER / EESSD / ESS).  Given this shared format, we would write some scripts that would live in ATS and automatically set up file formats, and would inform how Watershed Workflow writes its output.  It would automatically create the metadata files needed, making ESS DIVE submissions a very simple process.

The advantage to the community is that any ESS DIVE MDA for ATS now becomes a much easier thing to download and understand.

But please, we need your input on exactly WHAT should be in that standard.  What is important to you?  Reproducibility/traceability?  Full output of runs?  Or are inputs good enough?  What do YOU value in an archive of your work?

Thanks for taking the time -- this should be about 15 minutes of work if you've ever done a MDA before, and maybe a bit longer if you've never thought about these issues before.

Ethan
