Hi Atlantis team
Has anyone used their Atlantis model to explore scenarios looking at carbon sequestration?
I’m wondering if this is a.) do-able in an Atlantis model; b.) would require turning on ‘trackAtomicRatio’; c.) if we could proxy this by converting nitrogen using species-specific nitrogen to carbon ratios, probably external to the Atlantis model.
The trackAtomicRatio option seems to be quite an undertaking, although I’m keen to hear if anyone has experience with turning this on.
Best wishes,
Vidette

Hi Robert
Thanks for the prompt response!
I’m in the fairly early stages of thinking about this, so some time in October would be good timing to brainstorm this idea further.
I hadn’t really thought about the particulate sinking rates. Possibly the physics.prm file is worth a closer look too. We’re also interested in exploring the effects of destructive fishing methods (e.g., trawling, dredging) on carbon in the sediments, although this might be a bit more ambitious. The storage in living biomass is possibly easier to get to in Atlantis – and you’re right, starting with something that is relatively quick before delving into code changes makes sense!
Cheers,
