You need a soul to pass away to another world, so if you don't believe in a soul, you might be better off saying that he died.
Belief in souls is very much alive; read this:

Heidi Wyrick would give you some names:All humans that become deceased die. No such thing as a soul has ever been identified as being any part of a human being. No matter how religious the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip may have been, or what religion he followed; He Died.On Saturday, 10 April 2021 at 12:47:29 UTC+1 Dingbat wrote:You need a soul to pass away to another world, so if you don't believe in a soul, you might be better off saying that he died.Belief in souls is very much alive; read this:

Does a doctor complete a DEATH CERTIFICATE for atheists, humanists, agnostics, skeptics, satanists, idolators, animists and secularists and a PASSED AWAY CERTIFICATE for everyone else?Quite frankly, I think he had the good sense to just die. Even as the Queen's consort, he would not suffer fools gracefully and was not known for making a fuss or a kerfuffle.Give the man some peace from the faithful's lachrymose whinings for his "soul"!I'm certain he had to suffer a stomach-full while he lived. His old lady was opinionated enough for one lifetime. Was your question intentionally provocative, Dingbat? Or do you already know the answer?

His old lady was opinionated enough for one lifetime. Was your question intentionally provocative, Dingbat? Or do you already know the answer? The unstated question is "What should a believer in afterlife tell an unbeliever about a death?" Should they say he died or should they say he passed away, knowing that the listener doesn't believe in passing away? How about an announcement by a believer to a general audience including unbelievers. Should they say he died, in consideration for the unbelievers, or should they say he passed away, in accordance with their belief? And should believers tolerate or take offence at a statement by an unbeliever that so and so died?
