Hi,

I have an issue with astrometry-net version 0.91. I am trying to solve an image however I get this

Reading input file 1 of 1: "/Users/lydiamakrygianni/Documents/lcogtsnpipe/snexdata_target6919/tfn1m001-fa11-20210801-0425-e91.fits"...

Reading file "/Users/lydiamakrygianni/Documents/lcogtsnpipe/snexdata_target6919/tfn1m001-fa11-20210801-0425-e91.axy"...

Field 1 did not solve (index index-4208.fits, field objects 1-10).

Field 1 did not solve (index index-4207-11.fits, field objects 1-10).

Whereas for other similar images and for the example I get the "extracting sources..." line.

Do you know what might happen?

Thank you,

Lydia

Hi,

Like the error message says, the Netpbm package, which is required, wasn't found when the code was compiled.

After installing netpbm, you can do a "make reconfig" to make it re-search for the Netpbm package, if you have it installed, and then re-run "make" and "make install".

cheers,
dustin

Hi,

Thank you for your reply! I'll do this however I doubt this is the issue as I get the same warning when solving the examples but I do get a solution.

Cheers,

Lydia

Hi,
That looks weird.  What kind of file is /home/lmakrygianni/tfn1m001-fa11-20210801-0425-e91.fits .  Is it an image?  It looks like solve-field thinks it is a FITS *table* of X,Y star positions.
But then plotxy is failing to read it -- my guess is there's something weird about that file.
You can turn off plots with --no-plots, but that shouldn't really matter, it should continue on and solve the field if possible.
If you can post that file, or, eg, upload it to nova.astrometry.net, I may be able to comment further.
cheers,
dustin

PS, netpbm is absolutely required to read jpeg/png images, but not FITS images.

Hi,

It's a fits image which seems normal in terms of opening it with ds9. I uploaded it on nova.astrometry.net, and for some reason, it was solved there. It's Job 7113474.
If you figure out what's wrong or different with the online solution. please let me know.

Thanks,

Lydia

Hi,
Okay, so what's happening is, the code is trying to figure out if your FITS file is a FITS image, or a FITS table of source positions.  Since you files have a table HDU containing "x" and "y" columns, it thinks it's a table of source positions, and tries to read that.  You can add the "--fits-image" argument to your solve-field command to tell it that it should treat your file as an image.
cheers,
dustin
