Dear Sir / Madam

I'm Fernando Bordignon , an Argentinean researcher on issues related to education and technology. I contacted you for an investigation into the maker culture. relevant to my doctoral studies in education at UNED (Universidad Nacional a Distancia de España).

My research is in line with a central question What does read and write today? to allow citizens to interact in today's society (and not be interacted by it ) , ie you may have theoretical and practical knowledge that promote critical thinking, reflection and creativity as basic dimensions of a new emancipated and empowered citizen .

In your case you contact the theme maker culture, and in particular digital manufacturing processes ( in terms of Chris Anderson) . Understood as a creative process that combines the design , the development and construction of objects using tools and assisted and computer controlled machines.

I invite you to answer a series of questions by email. I will be very grateful for your feedback on my thesis work.

What is the pespectiva adoption of modalities and digital manufacturing systems by the population? Is it a fad (or fashion ) or it can be sustainable in the near future?

What in the world would change if the culture of digital manufacturing is adopted by the common people ?

Does the culture makers should be encouraged , particularly in his country, from government policies ? If so why? and how?

Maker does culture should be promoted from school ? Why? and how?

These are my questions , I'd appreciate your answers.

Maybe people are starting to raise the topic because  media talks about it so much in the last period .. but I have no doubt that in the near future will be a need for all to have the possibility to produce by themselves the things they need.

What in the world would change if the culture of digital manufacturing is adopted by the common people ?

The most obvious result would be to go against the system

The makers should not only be encouraged, but also supported and helped. How? 

economically and giving them the chance to get know at and build a new future without barriers

Maker does culture should be promoted from school ? Why? and how?

The school is the most suitable channel for the dissemination of the culture of makers because it gives the opportunity for children to come into contact with this world already so young. One way would be to insert a few hours dedicated to the subject in the national programs

Nonostante il boom mediatico sicuramente è anche un capriccio, o una moda, una fissa, ma le potenzialità sono concrete e reali e l'intenzione di questa corrente è quella di risvegliare le menti assopite alla volontà delle multinazionali e dei grandi poteri. Una rivoluzione che parte dal basso, fatta dalle persone, non dalle aziende e che secondo noi presto cambierà il mondo e in meglio.

    E non solo la cultura dei maker va contro il sistema, ma va contro al nostro stesso modo di pensare e di agire. Tutto quello che abbiamo visto e fatto finora va completamente stravolto e dovremmo tutti iniziare a vederci come dei "prosumer" produttori e consumatori.
Questa visione può apparire desolante e distruttiva, perchè sovverte completamente la mentalità capitalistica e consumistica che ci hanno inculcato per anni, e ci porterebbe ad un improving delle nostre conoscenze e abilità. Nella nostra visione sarebbe un mondo ideale, equo e altamente sostenibile da un punto di vista economico, sociale e ambientale.

Non solo il movimento dei maker va incoraggiato e possibilimente sovvezionato, ma va tenuto fortemente in considerazione per gli ambiti della ricerca e dello sviluppo innovativo, sociale ed economico. Inoltre i governi dovrebbero prendere coscienza delle filosofie "open" (open source, openhardware & sharing economy) e renderle trasparenti, non un qualcosa NON TUTELATA,  e quasi ai limiti della legalità. La burocrazie dovrebbe essere più snella, e rendere le operazioni di sviluppo sostenibili da tutti i punti di vista e tutelare i maker nei loro progetti, difendendoli dai business e le scorrettezze delle grandi imprese.

La scuola dovrebbe implementare fablab al loro interno, guidati non dai professori di vecchia data, ma da maker di spicco delle realtà locali. Questo favorirebbe la ricerca nelle università in ogni ambito (biologia, meccanica, elettronica, medicina...) e preparerebbe gli studenti in modo pratico al mondo del lavoro.
Invece nelle scuole primarie e secondarie aiuterebbe i ragazzi di ogni età ad imparare molto più velocemente, rendendoli più consapevoli e preparati nell'utilizzo delle tecnologie e degli strumenti a loro disposizione, maturando così le cosidette "competenze digitali" fin da piccoli.

I'm answering for me and fro all the members of the Syskrack Lab who recieve the same mail!

1 Q.What is the pespectiva adoption of modalities and digital manufacturing systems by the population? Is it a fad (or fashion ) or it can be sustainable in the near future?

  A. Maybe people are starting to raise the topic because  media talks about it so much in the last period  but the potential is concrete and real. The intention of this current is to awaken the minds that respond to the    

       desire of multinationals and big powers. The digital manufacturing system represent a revolution that starts from the bottom, made ​​by people, not by the companies and we think that will soon change the world and              dream for a better one.

2.Q. What in the world would change if the culture of digital manufacturing is adopted by the common people ?

  A. The most obvious result would be to go against the system  but it goes against our way of thinking and acting too. Everything we have seen and done untill today must be completely changed and we should all begin to            see ourselves as the "prosumer" producers and consumers. This vision may seem bleak and destructive, because it completely subverts the capitalist and consumerist mentality that we have inculcated for years but              would lead to an improving on our knowledge and skills. We think it would be an ideal world, fair and highly sustainable from an economic, social and environmental poin of view.

3.Q. Does the culture makers should be encouraged , particularly in his country, from government policies ? If so why? and how?

   A.   The makers should not only be encouraged, but also supported and helped. How? economically and giving them the chance to get know at and build a new future without barriersIt should also be taken into account    

        for the areas of research and innovative development, social and economic. In addition, governments should be aware of the philosophies "open" (open source, openhardware & sharing economy) and make them            

        transparent, not something NOT PROTECTED, and almost to the limits of legality. The bureaucracies should be slimmer, and make operations sustainable development from all points of view and protect the maker in           their projects, defending them from business and misconduct of large companies

4.Q.Maker does culture should be promoted from school ? Why? and how?

    A.The school is the most suitable channel for the dissemination of the culture of makers because it gives the opportunity for children to come into contact with this world already so young. One way would be to      

       insert a few hours dedicated to the subject in the national programsThe school should implement FabLab: Students should be guided not by the old professors, but from makers of local realities. This would facilitate          research in universities in all fields (biology, mechanics, electronics, medicine ...) and would prepare students in a practical way in the world of work. 

       Instead, in primary and secondary schools would help kids of all ages to learn much more quickly, making them more aware and prepared in the use of technologies and tools available to them, thereby developing the so

      called "digital competence" from an early age.
