Search by DOI in the API

Hi,

I am looking for a way to find a preprint associated to a given DOI
using the API. I found the "doi:" keyword in the search parameter, which
should be ok for this (cf
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/arxiv-api/Peb11TxV078).

However, when looking for [this paper](http://arxiv.org/abs/1506.06690)
with DOI 10.1209/0295-5075/111/40005, using the following query:
http://export.arxiv.org/api/query?search_query=doi:10.1209/0295-5075/111/40005

I do not get any result back, which is a bit weird.

I get same result with various randomly selected papers on arxiv, while
the example in the above thread is indeed working.


Am I missing something?

Hi Phyks,

the doi search you quote should work, but it does not. That's an index/search problem at arXiv. I alerted them to it on separate channel. Due to end of year break I don't expect immediate resolution, though. Further examples

this works

?

I can still reproduce it tonight.

This issue has still not been resolved!!! It seems the API cannot handle DOIs with minus signs in them.

For example, none of these searches work: 

http://export.arxiv.org/api/query?search_query=doi:10.1088/1126-6708/2002/06/029&start=0&max_results=5 

http://export.arxiv.org/api/query?search_query=doi:10.1007/978-3-030-15709-8&start=0&max_results=5 

http://export.arxiv.org/api/query?search_query=doi:10.1088/1748-0221/15/10/P10004&start=0&max_results=5 

http://export.arxiv.org/api/query?search_query=doi:10.1140/epjc/s10052-017-5225-7&start=0&max_results=5 

They do however turn up in the regular search tool:

This is very disappointing for anyone who wants to use the API to find arxiv entries from a long list of DOIs.

Thank you for reaching out, and we apologize for the inconvenience. At this time I think it's safe to say that any bugs will persist in the classic API until it's replaced by a new API service – which I would expect to occur in 2023, but I don't have a more specific timeline because there are competing development priorities and limited staff time.

Hi Jake,

Thank you for the quick response! Good to hear that the development team is working on this. Searching for DOIs using the arXiv search tools seems to have multiple issues. For example, the simple search/advanced search function does not treat DOIs in a case-insensitive way, even though case-insensitivity should be guaranteed by the DOI standard. I already mentioned this in another post on the arXiv search github: https://github.com/arXiv/arxiv-search/issues/315. It would suggest the developers make it a priority to fix these bugs in the upcoming release, as the functionality of the search tools is severley hampered by them.
