Hello, I stared testing Artsmesh about a week ago and still struggling to make it work between my 2 MacBook Airs located within the same LAN. The problem is that another user (node?) does not show up under Live tab although Artsmesh recognizes it (i.e., I can put it in the routing wheel but cannot make connections to it). I assume I need to see another user under Live tab to make things work, am I right? And if so, what am I supposed to do to get another user shown up under Live tab? Thanks in advance.

hi keiji,
this would be good time to explain the ‘LOCAL’ and ‘MESH’ servers.

The local server is on the top right of the app, that should turn green when you boot up artsmesh.
It is looking for a local artsmesh server (using bonjour service on LAN), IF it doesn’t find one, it starts one. green.
IF it does fine a local server (you’re running two local computers), it JOINS that server. green.

Then when you MESH (top left), you join our global Artsmesh server which has everyone’s user/group profile info and ip addresses.
You can switch to the LIVE tab in the GROUPS panel to see all the MESHed groups.
the blinking button next to MESH button is the heartbeat to our server (every two seconds) that essentially keeps you LIVE and visible to online groups.

SO, if you’re just using artsmesh in a local ‘cluster’ (your LAN), you don’t have to MESH.
You just see each other in the ‘LOCAL’ tab of the GROUPS panel.

then you’re just routing jacktrip between local/private area addresses.

To get both computers to show up in LIVE tab, GROUPS panel, MESH both computers.
then both computers can do different tasks in the production. maybe one does audio and another video.

thanks keiji,
Ken

Hello Ken,

Thank you very much for the clarification. So, I understand I do not have to click MESH as long as my Macs are within the same LAN.

However, I still do not have users shown up under LIVE tab. I understand this is something mandatory. What can be cause of the issue?

Currently, I cannot connect my DAW's Receive 9 and 10 to the other node's Send 1 and 2 in the routing wheel (selecting Connect in the context menu does not do anything).

Is this the sympton when you do not have users under the Live tab?

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

that’s mandatory for MESHing with others on the internet. not on your local area network.
if you don’t click the MESH button, the LIVE tab will not be populated with remote users.

when you connected jacktrip (‘+’) sign on the router panel, audio tab, did you get green cables connecting the two computers on both sides?

You can check the jacktrip_x.log here, NETWORK TOOLS Panel, in the dropdown menu under FULL LOG:

so you have 10 sends (white dots) and 10 blue dots (receives)?

Select white dots and control click on Blue dots.

Ken

Yes, the local buttons on the both computers are green.

Well, if I choose Client as Role, then the green cables connecting the two computers on both sides; however, if I choose Server as Role, then, I cannot connect to the other computer at all. I am supposed to set one of them as Server, ain't I?

I have 2 sends and 2 receives for system. The other computer in the wheel has 10 sends and 10 receives.

Thanks in advance.
