I circulated the peanutabout schematic amongst my fellow APBP members. Feedback generally was that an overpass at the narrow waist of the peanut would be the best solution. But also that an at-grade crossing in that same location, supplemented by RRFBs, could also work. (Should function pretty much the same as any roundabout exit.)
I could see the County taking an incremental approach:
a) Build the peanutabout as per the schematic and evaluate performance (including trail delay).
b) When they find trail LOS has gone down instead of improved then install the mid-peanut crossing as above. Further evaluation & iteration as needed.
c) While all that's happening, put an overpass into the CIP and start lining up funding.

Hi,

Given your experience as a planner, what is your estimate of the time between b) and the actual building of the overpass? I would be surprised if it's anything less than 10 years.
Also, is anyone doing an evaluation of the LOS now, so that there is actual data showing a loss of LOS? Otherwise it's just unsubstantiated anecdotes, right?

Cheers,
Steve

Would those planners let their own kids use an at grade crossing with rrfbs to bike to middle school?
