Hi BAC,

Here is the County's proposed new BAC Charter.
Take a look and share your thoughts.
We can discuss on the BAC listserv (and offline too) and pull together our reactions.

We have 30 days to submit our comments...the deadline is Nov. 3. Please feel free to email Leah directly with your reactions and suggestions. It's also fine just to post to the list, and we can compile whatever feedback we all come up with.

Thanks,
Cynthia

I have just two concerns:

The first is that I think the charter should make clear that BAC is the best venue for dealing with micromobility policies, not just bikes.  I would like to see the wording in the charter extended to micromobility in general, to make clear that discussions about scooter policies, education, encouragement, etc belong at the BAC. I don't think anybody wants a "Scooter Advisory Committee" and I think they fit better at BAC than they do at PAC or TAC.

Second I'm concerned about the removal of all references to the police and/or enforcement from the "will advise on" section.  I think the liaison with the Arlington PD is one of the most useful and productive activities the BAC has engaged in over the last few years and would hate to see it permanently ended based on this charter.  Suggested additional bullet for the "Will advise on" section: "Enforcement of bicycle and other micromobility laws and ordinances & education about these laws and ordinances" or something to that effect.

Agree with Chris

I would add to that final bullet: "including police and automated enforcement "

What Gillian and Chris said.

What I found missing from the BAC charter (but it doesn't seem like it's ever been there), was provision for sufficient bicycle parking facilities (ie, well designed and secure racks, conveniently located near possible destinations.) Isn't that part of infrastructure that we should be concerned with, to promote cycling as a viable transportation option?
