A loading/unloading area at a self-storage facility. Does it meet the definition of short-term transient?
Yes or No
A.5.3.2 Ordinary hazard occupancies (Group 2) include occupancies having uses and conditions similar to the following:
· Exterior loading docks
Note that exterior loading docks only used for loading and unloading of ordinary combustibles should be classified as OH2.
A.8.15.7.5 Short-term transient storage, such as that for delivered packages, and the presence of planters, newspaper machines, and so forth, should not be considered storage or handling of combustibles. The presence of combustible furniture on balconies for occupant use should not require sprinkler protection.

Good question Duane. I tend to lean towards No, since this area is specifically intended to loading/unloading of bulk combustibles. This would be like a loading dock on the back of a store. Not like a UPS truck pulling up to a hotel once a day, or individuals unloading luggage.
Questions I would consider on benefit of sprinklers:
