Regarding the method of describing external data as PREMIS

Hi all,

Currently, in Archivematica, rights information entered through the GUI is described as PREMIS. However, is there a way to describe other information in PREMIS as well? For example, if I want to include the name of the creator of archival materials in PREMIS. When transferring via CSV, all data is created as descriptive metadata in METS, but I am unsure how to handle information that should be considered administrative metadata. If anyone knows, your help would be appreciated.

Hello Boyoung,

Yes in a way you can- not through the GUI, but through importing premis.xml files with your transfer you can import event metadata, which would be a way of recording a creator through a creation event (which is just an example, obviously all other kinds of events and their related entities are also possible). This is described in the documentation here: https://archivematica.org/en/docs/archivematica-1.16/user-manual/transfer/import-metadata/#premis-xml

The reason we chose XML as the import standard for PREMIS events rather than CSV is because we know many users utilize other tooling for recording PREMIS metadata and it seemed most likely that those tools would export in XML.
