Dears,

The issue of maps not loading because of exceeding maximum numbers of free 50,000 loads within a week is really bugging us. We have developed Digital Archive of Nepalese Arts and Monuments (DANAM, https://uni-heidelberg.de/danam) to inventor heritage significant monuments of Kathmandu Valley. We rely heavily on satellite image of Kathmandu Valley from OSM as base map through Map widget of Mapbox. The problem is that we create free user everytime, we run out of free loads of 50,000 provided by Mapbox. Since, we are not a profit oriented organization, paying 5 dollar per 1000 map loads after 50,000 free loads will press substantial strain. On other hand, obtaining high resolution ortho-rectified satellite or aerial images is very difficult (if not impossible). The question is "is/are there any known solution(s) or work around(s) for this issue"? Does someone know if and how to get (extended) free map loads from Mapbox?

Any suggestion or remark will be extensively helpful.

Best,

Ashish

Ashish,

We have worked with Mapbox on a few occasions to negotiate preferred (sometimes free) licensing terms for community benefit.  I can’t make any promises, but I suggest you contact them and just explain your situation.  I would not be at all surprised if they just give you the licensing you need for free.  Here is how to contact them for this kind of thing: https://Mapbox.com/community/

Good luck…

Hello,

It seems that this is a problem when the reports are loaded in Mozilla Firefox. The maps are loaded every few seconds. That is why the maps gets loaded infinitely when left open. This does not happen in Chrome. Does anyone face this. We are using Arches 4.4.2.

Regards,

Ashish

I've just checked our 4.4.1 application that we are just about to put through UAT and can confirm that a map network traffic is triggering every 3 seconds.

I have tracked this to the map widget where generatePrintMap is continuously being called. It is being triggered by a map event continuously firing from what I can see.

I've put it in my backlog to look at and will let you know if we find the solution.

Thank you Andrew,

I wonder if I could be of any help. If so please let me know. I wonder whether there are other Arches implementations that are facing this issue.

Ashish

Ashish and Andrew, I have definitely experienced this, or something like this, in the past, but didn't look further to understand that it was only on Firefox. So you are ahead of me there, but I can confirm that constant map refreshing is not just something you two are seeing.

To add to this quickly - this was a known bug that has been fixed in Arches 5.

In legacy projects that need to address this bug in situ, this could probably be done by overriding the map widget and removing the calls to generatePrintMap

Where actually?

Hi Ashish,

I think that you could simply add the above JS file to your project media directory (the same path from media/ on down) and comment out or remove that block.  Make sure you grab the JS file from the branch for the arches release that you are using.

Hi Rob,

Thank you for the tip. We commented the if condition on those lines. It did stop triggering the event but it had another implications. The map on "Search" page was reduced to half.

We also tried to change the condition from Strictly equal to not equal. The triggering stopped in the "Report" page but it started on "Search" page.

Any further suggestions?

Regards,

Ashish
