Fire and Ice 2022 - Call For Volunteers

First Meeting Nov 17 @ 6pm Location TBD. Discussion will be on the 2022 event. Looking for Coordinators and folks interested
in helping out.

What is Fire and Ice?
-- Every year the Gateway Burners and Arch Reactor partner up and run a
fundraiser in first quarter of the year.
Generally it takes place in the Feb/Mar time frame depending on location
availability and our proactivity in getting the event set up ;)
-- The event itself Morphs and Changes slightly every year, but generally it
includes things like : Music (live & DJ) / Dancing / Alcohol / Science Demos
/ “Art” Auction / Food “Competition” / Fire performers / Costume Contest /
other randomness such as Liquid nitrogen Ice cream
-- Both Groups evenly split the “take” from the event down the middle (after
expenses), so it’s important that we pull our portion of the work. Putting in the work beforehand generally
means we have a great turn out at the event.
The “Arch Reactor” reason for the event is fundraising for the Awesome
Grant program. In years past AR has
brought in around $2000 each year, with variances each year.
Why are you reading this?
-- It’s time to start spinning up this process and we are looking for 4 or 5 people
to work with a similar group from the Gateway Burners in planning the
events. The responsibilities are pretty
simple in that there will be several meeting, both in person and virtual, where
we get all the ground work in place. IE
deciding what exactly the event will be, scouting locations, planning events
and all the general “grunt work” that setting up a larger event takes.
Important points:
If you are looking for volunteer hours
this is a great way to stockpile them.
If you are New to the group, this is a
great way to dive right in.
If this isn’t for you don’t worry
there are additional opportunities to assist later in the process on the day of

I have been absent of late though I believe I can be of help for a attraction for this years 2022 Fire and Ice. I have been whipping up a mobile manipulator robot and have made good progress wit the design and parts. I would like to see if we would be able to build and program it to serve drinks for this years event. I will fund much of the hardware though I would ask if there are members that would like to help build/program the functions needed.

Sorry for the delay. It's been a busy week :)
Unfortunately for this year Fire and Ice was held Mid March. however there is always next year.
There is a RoboMO group that meets the second Saturday of each month. they may be a good target to talk shop about the Manipulator Arm with.
