Dear Author
I am a heavy APRS user, but since the basic map of aprs.fi became an open map, the AIS display has become a bottleneck and it takes a long time to display.
In that regard, could you please turn off the AIS display by default?
It would be an extra step for users who want to see the AIS, but since not many people see the AIS and it can be seen by other means, I don't think it would be a problem.
Please consider this.

How about it on by default but the user has the option to turn it off saves hassle to the majority for the sake of a minority

What about a feature request to solve this issue:

Maybe Mr. Hannikainen could enable URL parameters such as:

&filter=hide:ais
&filter=hide:wx
&filter=hide:web
&filter=hide:digi
&filter=hide:ig8

So that your personal bookmark to aprs.fi would setup the page just as you like

Hi,

By default aprs.fi shows all stations found in the database. It would
be weird if it singled out specific types of stations and would not show
them by default, and would cause problem reports from quite a few people
complaining about the disappeared AIS stations.

Every user does already has the option to hide AIS station using the
rather flexible filtering mechanism:

1. Log in first

2. Tap the filter (funnel) button on the right side of the map, enable the
"Station class: AIS" filter, tap the red arrow down to move it to the "and
not these" side. AIS stations disappear from view.

3. Tap "Save as new list", enter a nice name for your custom filter list,
like "No AIS". Go to Preferences, enable "Save current map view as default
view", click "Save". From there on, aprs.fi will open up with that custom
filter enabled.
