Hi Melissa.

>> Is there any basic world chart or charts on Avare for following along when in an airliner?<<

I do not know of a single Chart that does that.

There are a couple of things you can try, may be others, I will post your question  (World chart or charts on Avare ) in the Avare Forum:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/apps4av-forum

for more information / feedback.

1-In USA you can download the World Charts available in Avare Download, to pilots.

2-If you want a Map with cities, none pilot use, and are satisfied with a coarse, not very good detail, you can create your own, search the Forum for CUSTOM. TV

Yes, I have the US charts but am going to Argentina and like looking at charts for the areas I fly over when on an airline flight. Not a lot of detail needed but I like having the GPS data of speed and altitude as well as a general idea of where we are. I see 497 TPC large files and wondered what they are.

Yes you may use TPC files.
I think we have some for south america. See tpc areas online for what chart to get in TPC.

Can you give me a specific website to look at?

This is probably not the solution you are looking for, but perhaps you should consider using osmand.  They have world overview based on open street map data.

TPC is our best current solution.  [I processed all the TPC data and can't even remember where each chart is located.]

FWIW I've never been able to get good GPS reception inside the belly of a commercial airliner, so avare (tablet/phone) has not been a great tool (for me) for what you are proposing to do.

Okay. For years I have traveled with the Garmin from my truck that has basic world maps in it and gets GREAT reception in the airliner. I was hoping to be able to leave a piece of equipment home and still get the same info and enjoyment out of the flight. Perhaps not.

My wife and I just flew SBA<->LAX<->HNL<->OGG and HNL<->AKL<->SYD and I
had Avare working fairly well on a Samsung S4 and flawlessly on an S7 in
both window and the adjacent seat on a wide variety of commercial
aircraft. It was especially fun for me to see our position relative to
Kiribati(sp?) on the long transoceanic going over. We also flew
commercial on several hops around NZ and on several GA flights I managed
to get there.

Avare was fabulous to have aboard on all of them. I also used OSMand a
few times, and even gMaps with preloaded maps (though I found that more
hassle and less useful). The key to my success was finding and
preloading all the relevant charts and maps. I'm hopeful that in time
we might see more "static" (never or seldom updated) Avare maps and
charts for such uses, and in the meantime a good source for what those
various built-in options cover. For my trip it took some sleuthing
online to figure out which to Download in Avare, and it was pretty easy
to figure that out for OSMand & gMaps.

Happy Flying :)

Thank you to all who have replied. I think this is exactly what I am looking for. I'm glad to hear that someone else likes to "follow along" and the stuff on a lot of the airlines is next to worthless or even non existent these days. This way I can watch the forward camera and have my charts up. The link you sent will help me sort through the TPC charts that it appears are already available for download on Avare. I have reset the path to go to the external XD card and have PLENTY of space for this.

Okay, I've been wading through the link from Zubair on the TPC charts and chose two to start downloading. It gets to 50% and then says "Download Failed TPC_h24a, code unable to unzip file, disk fullibcore. io. ErrnoException: open failed: ENOENT (No such file or directory)"

Now what?

Try changing the folder where avare stores its files.

Please post followup about this to the recent discussion about using SD
cards, so that others having such problems will find it. I'm going to
reply there. Here's a link to that topic:

Well I just downloaded a few WAC charts to see if they would give me an SD error and they did not. And I looked and they are "taking up space" on my SD card. So, my path for everything else is working and I am not sure I want to mess with it. Why the issue with the TPC charts?
