One thing to check is the 3i will not provide info until it has a gps fix. I have the stratus esg transponder and I have to wait until it displays the lat/long before I can connect to the 3i.

Subject: [Apps4Av] Stratus 3i is not working
Just got my plane back from shop after installing the Stratus 3i. I verified that the 3i is set to open ADS-b, which is the GDL-90 setting. The tablet is connected to the 3i, but when I turn on the I/O, I get an error and no data flows. I do have the 4000 port setting. The error says something about the port is already connected. So, I am going to delete and reload Avare.
I will keep you all posted. Let me know if I am missing something here.

.
Also there were some discussions about a month or two back about Android and how it puts some Network stuff to sleep, I think it was regarding some relatively modern Samsung devices, I think Galaxy S8 and maybe newer devices, the discussions went into how to stop the behavior.

Eric,
The way data is sent with the GDL-90 protocol over WIFI is literally "spray and pray" meaning that you ADS-B unit will just blindly transmit the data to everybody connected to your WIFI connection without regard to who actually is listening.
I question if the 3i is actually in GDL-90 mode and/or if it is using port 4000. If you are somewhat computer savvy and have a laptop computer available to you we can actually verify what if anything is coming from your 3i unit and I can provide you with some basic instructions.

I am definitely connected to the 3i via Wifi as far as the tablet is concerned.--

I'm not familiar with the stratus unit so I can't help you with the programming of the unit. What I can do is help you determine if it is in fact configured the way you believe it to be, and right now I am suspect of it's configuration settings.

I strongly suspect the Stratus 3i is NOT transmitting on port 4000 and/or is not on GDL-90 mode.

Keep in mind that you will not get FIS-B, TIS-B, or ADS-R data while on the ground unless you are very close to a transmitter. You will be able to pick up ADS-B out equipped aircraft while on the ground.
I'm assuming the unit will provide a GPS position source so at the very least you should be able to set Avare to external for the position source of your stratus is sending the position data.

The 3i in ‘open mode’ DOES work with Avare. I have and do use it. My issue is with switching it into open mode after my partners use it in FF mode. I suggest trying to find another 3i to test with or another Avare tablet to decide which component is causing the problems you have.

Again I strongly feel that you stratus is not configured for GDL90.
Regarding the (UDP) port 4000, this is the receive port that your tablet is listening on and appears to be the defacto port to receive GDL90 data on.
Because of how the protocol works it will become very obvious with some basic Network tools if the unit is actually in GDL90 mode.
Jeff
Eric, I am very sorry you were not able to resolve the problem and got poor support from Appareo. The 3i has several advantages over stratux and I hope your experience does not derail any efforts to provide an android method of setting it to Open Mode. I have decided to buy an old I-phone just to run Horizon Pro for switching modes until a solution arrives. I don’t want two sets of hardware and the expense of FF. I really like Avare and it meets all my EFB needs with powerful functions and ease of use.
