Hi All

Avare legacy app will be taken off sotre on Oct 1, 2026.

This is to allow users full summer flying season to switch to AvareX.

It's store listing will be revamped and allocated to AvareX.

Legacy Avare will live on GitHub for side loading. It will not be developed.

Thanks for the info and for the summer extension too.

For those of us without much computer ability, will you or someone publish a detailed step by step on how to access 'Github for side loading' of the last version of legacy AVARE. I have no idea what this means and I think I am not the only one. I understand development will not continue but I still wish to have the option to use in its most mature form, thanks. Roger

I can understand if the old app will be removed from the store and no updates to the app itself will be available but will the charts, plates, etc. be updatable after that date, for those of us who are running it on older tabs?

While I realize "change is hard", I'm still trying to see how AvareX will be a net improvement for me.  It doesn't seem to have the same level of customizations in Avare and many of the tools are not as intuitive.  I know it's extra work but some kind of "cross-walk" between the two apps would be great (if such already exists, my apologies - but I haven't found it).

Thanks

Yeah, please don't delete it.  I don't like AvareX and won't use it.  I really like Avare.   The app if you're going to remove it from the store should be offered off-store as an .apk (for android users) perhaps on your website.  Please.

I've used Avare for a long long time, and pilots like consistency and intuitive function.  AvareX just doesn't work intuitively for me at all.

Please do not remove the classic Avare, It's lean(responsive) and clean(simple). While the AvareX is fat(clumsy) and  complex.

And now that I've said I love Avare, but don't like AvareX... on todays flight it spontaneously crashed over and over... even after rebooting my current version Android Tablet.

In the words of the Immortal Beavis:  This sucks.

Putting myself in the position of the developers, I can't imagine a strategy less likely to succeed in securing their cooperation than speaking disrespectfully of their hard work.  Enough of that already.

I don't think anyone loved the original version more than I did, and I have been a long-time very enthusiastic evangelist for it.  But after spending some time and effort (and yes, it does take a bit of both, just as the original version did) I am a total convert to X.  It is more polished and has more capabilities, including some critical ones that have made a big difference for me.  Even though I have both installed on my cockpit displays, I haven't used Original in a couple of months now.

I, for one, and VERY grateful for X.  I hope Original stays around as a side-load too, if for nothing else than a backup.

I totally agree. There is nothing wrong with AvareX. Like anything new, you just need to spend the time to become familiar.

Most importantly, Avare is open source. Its github page will most likely stay forever. Anyone is free to download the source code, modify, compile and run it, just not through the app store. Yes, that requires some familiarity with app development.

I don't see disrespect, i see pleading.. not to get rid of something that is a flight safety support tool that works fine without the feature bloat.

If people love it so much then I can put a $5 per month price tag to legacy app to validate it ?

Well, you could but since there is no longer any updates, bug repairs or fixes planned, I think a fixed one time fee is probably better.  I believe I sent in a contribution at one point, and would do so again.   But this last flight it crashed every 5 min..

That's been fixed by a volunteer. New release is up for legacy

I had a similar issue with Avare once, and luckily (and always after
that) had it loaded on every other device I had in the cockpit (two
phones and two tablets). These cheap little toys are incredibly complex,
and not designed or built for mission critical use. Even expensive gear
that IS for such use crashes of course.

All that said, Android, iOS, and every multiple use consumer device is
typically loaded with innumerable apps that often conflict. I found that
having an old phone along with a fresh OS install and -ONLY- Avare on it
made for the most reliable backup.

I realize that this strategy may not be possible for many people, and
that a simple alternative is to install a different app if your favorite
crashes.

yeah I've not installed any new apps on this table since initial install. something else is going on, possibly a OS update, I may try to revert back to 11.05 if the nonsense continues..
will fly Monday and find out if its still glitching.

In Legacy Avare, you can dial the asos from the csup page. Can't seem to do that in avare-x

This is just a guess, but something I didn't realize with an Android tablet:  Anytime you open an app, that program is still running in the background.  Every so often, you should go to the 3 vertical lines on the left bottom (on my android) and close ALL the apps.  I've seen that menu called the "hamburger" menu?  Anyway, make sure all the programs running in the background are closed when running Avare.  It seems to help with my older androids.

No issues on today's flight, thank goodness!

I've loaded both Avare and AvareX on my Android Tablet... the traditional Avare connects to my uAvionics Ping ADS-B in easily, and displays the traffic correctly.  AvareX (on the same device) won't connect.
What am I doing wrong??

THANK YOU for making Avare so easy to use.  Maybe someday I'll get around to AvareX, but for now, I appreciate being able to use what is comfortable, clean, and familiar for flight safety purposes.
