I'm not sure there is an answer to your question
yet. AvareX is still beta, and though becoming stable, even the
devs and core testers don't have a lot of experience on it with
regard to memory required, disk space, etc. I don't think it is
dramatically different, but we haven't found use cases where
hardware is limiting. However, I think the oldest tablet used in
testing is based on android 8(?).
Jeff's answer may have seemed off, but in fact it
still probably points to the correct answer. To be able to
register/use the new app, you will likely require a version of
Android that supports google's current encryption requirements.
(Note these encryption protocols are industry standards, google
has just decided to enforce more recent standards as the old
ones had become insecure.)
