Longtime Avare user, recently switched to AvareX (running on a Motorola Android phone).

Weather

  • No text weather is appearing. Internet connection is fine.

  • The Weather scroll bar is set to max under Layers.

  • Long-pressing an airport brings up airport info (frequencies, runways, sunrise/sunset, etc.).

  • Tabs for NOTAM, SUA, and skew-T are visible, and skew-T is current - so data is clearly being received.

  • Weather radar works and loops correctly.

  • However, I don’t see any METAR/TAF data. I expected green or red dots at airports based on weather. What am I missing?

Traffic

  • No traffic is displayed, even though the GDL-90 output from the Stratux confirms traffic data is being received.

  • The Traffic scroll bar is set to max under Layers.

  • Is AvareX filtering traffic to only show imminent threats? If so, what’s the threshold?

  • My concern is not knowing whether traffic is being filtered, whether the ADS-B receiver is failing, or whether Wi-Fi is disconnected. A page to view raw traffic/weather data would be helpful.

SRC Internal

  • The top bar sometimes shows SRC Internal.

  • From my testing, it seems to mean that AvareX is using the phone's internal GPS for position, while still accepting Wi-Fi data from the Stratux.

  • I can verify that AHRS data is being received even when it says SRC Internal, but I can’t confirm whether traffic and weather are being received. Can someone please clarify what SRC Internal indicates?

Andrew,

I'm seeing METAR and TAF data, one thing to remember is depending upon how much or how little you have zoomed into the chart will change what airports are showing WX data.

sorry I was just focusing on the WX question

I just connected my tablet to a Stratux device sitting at home and I am getting (limited) traffic.  From memory AvareX is restricted to +/- 3000 ft of your present altitude and within 15 miles, essentually the same as the FAA's "hockey puck" that they transmit as TIS-B rebroadcasts.

The SRC internal/external should read external when connected to a Stratux (GDL-90 device) with a GPS

This is version 0.0.63 (very new, I think). Here are two screenshots - no weather is showing. It is connected to highspeed internet.

Andrew,

I don't know if this will help you, but I had what I feel was the same or similar issue. I went into app settings (Android), cleared storage and Cache, re-downloaded Databases and I got Weather back.

Thank you,

David, you are absolutely correct. I "forced stopped" the app, cleared cache and storage, redownloaded the database and charts, and voila, the weather and traffic now works. Thank you! I spent many hours chasing this issue.

Thanks, I just upgraded to version 64.

I came across an additional issue. After a full cache and storage wipe, when I download the database and charts and open the app for the first time, it throws a bunch of warnings/errors "Notice: Unable to delete file...".  I can tap on those errors, and they go away, but I don't know if that's something I need to be concerned about. See attached screenshot.

This is usually an issue with the phone's memory. Clearing cache usually solves the issue.  It was not reported before because it has no consequences. Now the X app has more warnings to diagnose issues.

There may also be a bug here that the SW tried to delete an already deleted file. Will investigate.
