AntConc 4.3.1 - BNC Wordlist

Dear Professor Anthony,

Hope you're doing well! I'm currently using AntConc 4.3.1 and have been trying to upload the BNC word frequency list as my reference corpus. I am, however, getting an error message saying that the delimiter could not be determined. Could you please let me know if I might be incorrectly uploading my corpus? Your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Varshneyee, 

Is your list a txt file? If so, is it correctly encoded in UTF-8?

If yes, can you copy and paste the first few lines of the file into an email message here?

Yes, the list is a plain text file. I downloaded it from AntConc's official website - under 'Word Frequency Lists'.

These are the first few lines of the file:

I see. You're trying to use a word list designed for AntConc 3.5.9 in AntConc 4. As the help page for AntConc 4x explains...

"The format for the simple word list is a header column: “type”, “freq” and optional “range”, followed by rows for each type in the corpus."

So, you just need to add the column headers and everything should work fine. I really should upload AntConc 4x versions of the lists to make it easier for people.
