If you create an AnkiWeb account, and use it to sync with activity
frequently enough that the account looks "active" (and so is not
automatically deleted) then you will always have a backup in the
cloud and you can use Anki on multiple devices etc., subject to
AnkiWeb terms

If you do not want to do that, then you will need to backup your
phone data somehow to make sure your collection is safe and will
survive phone damage or loss, the same as any data on your phone
(like photos etc). I use
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.amoradi.syncopoli/ and it
works well, but there are of course plenty of options.
