I study several foreign languages and have decks with chapters separated by tags so that I can focus on one chapter at a time and study specific chapters together. Notes also tend to have two cards each: A to B and B to A. I currently study using tags (which creates a custom study session), such as chapter 4 for the first time or cards that are due in chapters 1-3.
In another post (that was closed because it seemed solved), I asked
about limiting study to one card. The response was to use "card:1" in a
filtered deck, but I can't figure out how to do this in AnkiMobile. In
fact, modifying the "search" and "limit to" fields in the deck options
menu of a custom study session doesn't seem to do anything. Furthermore,
a custom study session for Japanese shows deck:"Korean" in the search
field, although this could be leftover from a previous session.
I was wondering if there's a practical way to limit new terms to 5 or 10 at a time and see one card first for all of these and then study the other card. What I'm trying to say is that if I have new terms A-E, I'd like to see Chinese to English first and then study English to Chinese. Having the choice to study either way or both together would be great. I'm trying to limit a session of new cards to 5-10 notes including target to native and then native to target. These can be reviewed with previous cards (both ways) when studying cards that are due.
Actually, I think I found it while experimenting but am still interested in whether or not there's a better way. In deck options, I change the deck name in the search field, add cards:1 there, change the "limit to" number, and most importantly rebuild the deck. Is there a way to set the default number of new cards in a custom study deck instead of it being 9,999 (or whatever it normally is)? I'm also interested in what the options under "cards selected by" mean: oldest seen first (I'm guessing the ones I haven't seen in a long time appear first), increasing intervals, decreasing intervals, and most lapsed (I'm guessing the ones I've missed the most).
