Transperant statusbar for AOSP CarStatusBar

Using android car for development and I want to make the status bar area transparent so that all the application launched shall display under status bar. Tried to set transparent colour for StatusBar in car_top_navigation_bar.xml in SystemUI , the status bar i getting transparent but the application area is not showing under the same.
