Hello,
I would be grateful if someone could translate this sentence to me: Ἀρχὴν δὲ τῆς σκεπτικῆς αἰτιώδη μέν φαμεν εἶναι τὴν ἐλπίδα τοῦ ἀταρακτήσειν. Especially this phrase: Ἀρχὴν δὲ τῆς σκεπτικῆς αἰτιώδη.

Thank you in advance
Rebin

Rebin!

I hope you no longer need this translation, but here it is for anyone else who might find this message:

We say (φαμεν) the causal (αἰτιώδη) principle (Ἀρχὴν) of scepticism (τῆς σκεπτικῆς) is (εἶναι) the hope (τὴν ἐλπίδα) of tranquility (τοῦ ἀταρακτήσειν).

Sextus Empiricus, PH 1.12.

Best wishes,

Daniel

Hello Danial,

Thank you for the translation :)

I prefered the Mate's translation. He translated "Ἀρχὴν" as "origin."

Thanks again!
Rebin
