Ayodhya Kaanda - Sarga 19 In the previous Sarga, Kaikēyee told Rāma about the two boons that his father gave her. In this Sarga, the unperturbed Rāma assures Kaikēyee that he would carry out the promises made by his father without fail. The king, unable to say a word, cries bitterly and falls unconscious. Hastened by Kaikēyee, Rāma leaves the King’s palace. Leaving the royal paraphernalia and consecration assemblage behind and forsaking the chariot, he goes, on foot, to Kousalyā’s palace to take leave of her before going to the Vana the very same day, as promised to Kaikēyee.
2.19.1	तदप्रियममित्रघ्नो वचनं मरणोपमम् । श्रुत्वा न विव्यथे रामः कैकेयीं चेदमब्रवीत् ॥ tadapriyamamitraghnō vacanaṃ maraṇōpamam । ṡrutvā na vivyathē rāmaḥ kaikēyīṃ cēdamabravīt ॥ Those words which were nothing short of a death sentence did not bother Rāma, the harrower of foes. He then responded to Kaikēyee by saying:
2.19.2	एवमस्तु गमिष्यामि वनं वस्तुमहं त्वितः । जटाजिनधरो राज्ञः प्रतिज्ञामनुपालयन् ॥ ēvamastu gamiṣyāmi vanaṃ vastumahaṃ tvitaḥ । jaṭājinadharō rājñaḥ pratijñāmanupālayan ॥ May it be so! I will go to live in the forest, right from here, with hair unkempt and wearing deer skin, to fulfill the promise made by the king!
2.19.3	इदं तु ज्ञातुमिच्छामि किमर्थं मां महीपतिः । नाभिनन्दति दुर्धर्षो यथापूर्वमरिन्दमः ॥ idaṃ tu jñātumicchāmi kimarthaṃ māṃ mahīpatiḥ । nābhinandati durdharṣō yathāpūrvamarindamaḥ ॥ But I would like to know why the invincible ruler of the lands, the subduer of foes would not greet me enthusiastically, as usual!
2.19.4	मन्युर्न च त्वया कार्यो देवि! ब्रूमि तवाग्रतः । यास्यामि भव सुप्रीता वनं चीरजटाधरः ॥ manyurna ca tvayā kāryō dēvi! brūmi tavāgrataḥ । yāsyāmi bhava suprītā vanaṃ cīrajaṭādharaḥ ॥ O queen! May you not worry! Let me reiterate to you! You will certainly be pleased to see me go to the Vana clad in bark and with matted locks.
2.19.5	हितेन गुरुणा पित्रा कृतज्ञेन नृपेण च । नियुज्यमानो विस्रब्धः किं न कुर्यामहं प्रियम् ॥ hitēna guruṇā pitrā kṛtajñēna nṛpēṇa ca । niyujyamānō visrabdhaḥ kiṃ na kuryāmahaṃ priyam ॥ Why would I not dutifully complete what has been assigned to me by the grateful king? Why would I not do what pleases my respected and well-wishing father?
2.19.6	अलीकं मानसं त्वेकं हृदयं दहतीव मे । स्वयं यन्नाह मां राजा भरतस्याभिषेचनम् ॥ alīkaṃ mānasaṃ tvēkaṃ hṛdayaṃ dahatīva mē । svayaṃ yannāha māṃ rājā bharatasyābhiṣēcanam ॥ That the king did not take me into confidence and tell about Bharata’s consecration directly to me, is causing a burning pain in my heart!
2.19.7	अहं हि सीतां राज्यं च प्राणानिष्टान्धनानि च । हृष्टो भ्रात्रे स्वयं दद्यां भरतायाप्रचोदितः ॥ ahaṃ hi sītāṃ rājyaṃ ca prāṇāniṣṭāndhanāni ca । hṛṣṭō bhrātrē svayaṃ dadyāṃ bharatāyāpracōditaḥ ॥ I myself would have happily given to my brother Bharata all the riches, the kingdom, my well wishers, Seetā and even my life!
2.19.8	किं पुनर्मनुजेन्द्रेण स्वयं पित्रा प्रचोदितः । तव च प्रियकामार्थं प्रतिज्ञामनुपालयन् ॥ kiṃ punarmanujēndrēṇa svayaṃ pitrā pracōditaḥ । tava ca priyakāmārthaṃ pratijñāmanupālayan ॥ Why would not I do what is required, to please you when told by my father, the lord of peoples himself, and fulfill his promise?
2.19.9	तदाश्वासय हीमं त्वं किन्विदं यन्महीपतिः । वसुधासक्तनयनो मन्दमश्रूणि मुञ्चति ॥ tadāṡvāsaya hīmaṃ tvaṃ kinvidaṃ yanmahīpatiḥ । vasudhāsaktanayanō mandamaṡrūṇi muñcati ॥ Please console him! Why should the lord of the lands shed tears with his gaze locked to the ground!
2.19.10	गच्छन्तु चैवानयितुं दूताश्श्रीघ्रजवैर्हयैः । भरतं मातुलकुलादद्यैव नृपशासनात् ॥ gacchantu caivānayituṃ dūtāṡṡrīghrajavairhayaiḥ । bharataṃ mātulakulādadyaiva nṛpaṡāsanāt ॥ In accordance with the king's orders may envoys go right away on swift horses to Bharata’s maternal uncle’s house and bring him here!
2.19.11	दण्डकारण्यमेषोऽहमितो गच्छामि सत्वरः । अविचार्य पितुर्वाक्यं समा वस्तुं चतुर्दश ॥ daṇḍakāraṇyamēṣō'hamitō gacchāmi satvaraḥ । avicārya piturvākyaṃ samā vastuṃ caturdaṡa ॥ Absolutely no deliberation is needed on the propriety of the word given by the father. I will go to the Daṇḍaka forest from here as soon as possible to live there for fourteen years.
2.19.12	सा हृष्टा तस्य तद्वाक्यं श्रुत्वा रामस्य कैकयी । प्रस्थानं श्रद्धधाना हि त्वरयामास राघवम् ॥ sā hṛṣṭā tasya tadvākyaṃ ṡrutvā rāmasya kaikayī । prasthānaṃ ṡraddhadhānā hi tvarayāmāsa rāghavam ॥ Hearing those words of Rāma, Kaikēyee felt very happy. Gaining full confidence from his words, she hastened him to get started.
2.19.13	एवं भवतु यास्यन्ति दूता श्शीघ्रजवैर्हयैः । भरतं मातुलकुलादुपावर्तयितुं नराः ॥ ēvaṃ bhavatu yāsyanti dūtā ṡṡīghrajavairhayaiḥ । bharataṃ mātulakulādupāvartayituṃ narāḥ ॥ Let it be so! May the envoys go on swift horses to bring back Bharata from his maternal uncle’s house!
2.19.14	तव त्वहं क्षमं मन्ये नोत्सुकस्य विलम्बनम् । राम! तस्मादित श्शीघ्रं वनं त्वं गन्तुमर्हसि ॥ tava tvahaṃ kṣamaṃ manyē nōtsukasya vilambanam । rāma! tasmādita ṡṡīghraṃ vanaṃ tvaṃ gantumarhasi ॥ I do not think any delay in following upon your resolve is appropriate. O Rāma! Hence you must leave from here to the Vana immediately!
2.19.15	व्रीडान्वित स्स्वयं यच्च नृपस्त्वां नाभिभाषते । नैतत्किञ्चिन्नरश्रेष्ठ! मन्युरेषोऽपनीयताम् ॥ vrīḍānvita ssvayaṃ yacca nṛpastvāṃ nābhibhāṣatē । naitatkiñcinnaraṡrēṣṭha! manyurēṣō'panīyatām ॥ That the king is not able to tell you this directly, out of shame, should not be taken seriously. O best of men! May you not be worried about it!
2.19.16	यावत्त्वं न वनं यातः पुरादस्मादभित्वरन् । पिता तावन्न ते राम! स्नास्यते भोक्ष्यतेऽपि वा ॥ yāvattvaṃ na vanaṃ yātaḥ purādasmādabhitvaran । pitā tāvanna tē rāma! snāsyatē bhōkṣyatē'pi vā ॥ O Rāma!, until you leave this city and go to the forest, your father will neither take bath nor eat food!
2.19.17	धिक्कष्टमिति निःश्वस्य राजा शोकपरिप्लुतः । मूर्छितो न्यपतत्तस्मिन्पर्यङ्के हेमभूषिते ॥ dhikkaṣṭamiti niḥṡvasya rājā ṡōkapariplutaḥ । mūrchitō nyapatattasminparyaṅkē hēmabhūṣitē ॥ “Wretchedness! What a calamity!” sighed the king in deep distress and fell unconscious on the golden couch.
2.19.18	रामोऽप्युत्थाप्य राजानं कैकेय्याभिप्रचोदितः । कशयेवाहतो वाजी वनं गन्तुं कृतत्वरः ॥ rāmō'pyutthāpya rājānaṃ kaikēyyābhipracōditaḥ । kaṡayēvāhatō vājī vanaṃ gantuṃ kṛtatvaraḥ ॥ Rāma helped the king to rise up and then, hastened by Kaikēyee, hurried to leave for the Vana, like a horse flogged by a whip.
2.19.19	तदप्रियमनार्याया वचनं दारुणोदयम् । श्रुत्वा गतव्यथो रामः कैकेयीं वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥ tadapriyamanāryāyā vacanaṃ dāruṇōdayam । ṡrutvā gatavyathō rāmaḥ kaikēyīṃ vākyamabravīt ॥ Rāma was unperturbed by those bitter words of disastrous consequence, from that ignoble Kaikēyee and said:
2.19.20	नाहमर्थपरो देवि! लोकमावस्तुमुत्सहे । विद्धिमामृषिभिस्तुल्यं केवलं धर्ममास्थितम् ॥ nāhamarthaparō dēvi! lōkamāvastumutsahē । viddhimāmṛṣibhistulyaṃ kēvalaṃ dharmamāsthitam ॥ O queen! I have no desire to live in this world for the sake of wealth. Know me as equal to Ṛshis in my devotion to Dharma!
2.19.21	यदत्र भवतः किञ्चिच्छक्यं कर्तुं प्रियं मया । प्राणानपि परित्यज्य सर्वथा कृतमेव तत् ॥ yadatra bhavataḥ kiñcicchakyaṃ kartuṃ priyaṃ mayā । prāṇānapi parityajya sarvathā kṛtamēva tat ॥ Whatever I can do to please my respected father, I will do, by any means, even if it means giving up my life!
2.19.22	न ह्यतो धर्मचरणं किञ्चिदस्ति महत्तरम् । यथा पितरिशुश्रूषा तस्य वा वचनक्रिया ॥ na hyatō dharmacaraṇaṃ kiñcidasti mahattaram । yathā pitariṡuṡrūṣā tasya vā vacanakriyā ॥ There is no nobler observance of Dharma than to serve one’s father and carry out his words!
2.19.23	अनुक्तोऽप्यत्रभवता भवत्या वचनादहम् । वने वत्स्यामि विजने वर्षाणीह चतुर्दश ॥ anuktō'pyatrabhavatā bhavatyā vacanādaham । vanē vatsyāmi vijanē varṣāṇīha caturdaṡa ॥ Even though the words did not come from my respected father directly, I will take the words from you and will live in the uninhabited Vana for fourteen years!
2.19.24	न नूनं मयि कैकयि! किञ्चिदाशंससे गुणम् । यद्राजानमवोचस्त्वं ममेश्वरतरा सती ॥ na nūnaṃ mayi kaikayi! kiñcidāṡaṃsasē guṇam । yadrājānamavōcastvaṃ mamēṡvaratarā satī ॥ Even though you have total command over me, O Kaikēyee, you do not trust me in full, for sure! Otherwise, you would have told me whatever you have said to the king!
2.19.25	यावन्मातरमापृच्चे सीतां चानुनयाम्यहम् । ततोऽद्यैव गमिष्यामि दण्डकानां महद्वनम् ॥ yāvanmātaramāpṛccē sītāṃ cānunayāmyaham । tatō'dyaiva gamiṣyāmi daṇḍakānāṃ mahadvanam ॥ I will take leave of my mother, convince Seetā and go to the great Daṇḍaka Vana this very day!
2.19.26	भरतः पालयेद्राज्यं शुश्रूषेच्च पितुर्यथा । तथा भवत्या कर्तव्यं स हि धर्म स्सनातनः ॥ bharataḥ pālayēdrājyaṃ ṡuṡrūṣēcca pituryathā । tathā bhavatyā kartavyaṃ sa hi dharma ssanātanaḥ ॥ Just as Bharata would serve the father, along with governing the kingdom, may you also serve father! For, it is time honored Dharma!
2.19.27	स रामस्य वचश्श्रृत्वा भृशं दुःखहतः पिता । शोकादशक्नुवन्वकतुं प्ररुरोद महास्वनम् ॥ sa rāmasya vacaṡṡrṛtvā bhṛṡaṃ duḥkhahataḥ pitā । ṡōkādaṡaknuvanvakatuṃ prarurōda mahāsvanam ॥ Hearing those words of Rāma, his father was struck by deep misery and could not speak. Rather he cried aloud bitterly!
2.19.28	वन्दित्वा चरणौ रामो विसंज्ञस्य पितुस्तथा । कैकेय्याश्चाप्यनार्यायाः निष्पपात महाद्युतिः ॥ vanditvā caraṇau rāmō visaṃjñasya pitustathā । kaikēyyāṡcāpyanāryāyāḥ niṣpapāta mahādyutiḥ ॥ The supremely radiant Rāma paid homage to the feet of his unconscious father and to Kaikēyee, the ignoble woman and exited from that place.
2.19.29	स रामः पितरं कृत्वा कैकेयीं च प्रदक्षिणम् । निष्क्रम्यान्तःपुरात्तस्मात्स्वं ददर्श सुहृज्जनम् ॥ sa rāmaḥ pitaraṃ kṛtvā kaikēyīṃ ca pradakṣiṇam । niṣkramyāntaḥpurāttasmātsvaṃ dadarṡa suhṛjjanam ॥ Rāma circumambulated his father and Kaikēyee and left the inner quarters and saw his friends.
2.19.30	तं बाष्पपरिपूर्णाक्षः पृष्ठतोऽनुजगाम ह । लक्ष्मणः परमक्कृध्दः स्सुमित्रानन्दवर्धनः ॥ taṃ bāṣpaparipūrṇākṣaḥ pṛṣṭhatō'nujagāma ha । lakṣmaṇaḥ paramakkṛdhdaḥ ssumitrānandavardhanaḥ ॥ Lakshmaṇa, the delight of Sumitrā was outraged and followed Rāma, his eyes brimming with tears.
2.19.31	अभिषेचनिकं भाण्डं कृत्वा रामः प्रदक्षिणम् । शनैर्जगाम सापेक्षो दृष्टिं तत्राविचालयन् ॥ abhiṣēcanikaṃ bhāṇḍaṃ kṛtvā rāmaḥ pradakṣiṇam । ṡanairjagāma sāpēkṣō dṛṣṭiṃ tatrāvicālayan ॥ Rāma circumambulated the articles arranged for the consecration with a steady glance and moved away slowly.
2.19.32	न चास्य महतीं लक्ष्मीं राज्यनाशोऽपकर्षति । लोककान्तस्य कान्तत्वाच्छीतरश्मेरिव क्षपा ॥ na cāsya mahatīṃ lakṣmīṃ rājyanāṡō'pakarṣati । lōkakāntasya kāntatvācchītaraṡmēriva kṣapā ॥ Loss of the kingdom did not diminish his majestic splendor in any manner just as night cannot diminish the splendor of the moon, for the charisma to captivate all the worlds was his own!
2.19.33	न वनं गन्तुकामस्य त्यजतश्च वसुन्धराम् । सर्वलोकातिगस्येव लक्ष्यते चित्तविक्रिया ॥ na vanaṃ gantukāmasya tyajataṡca vasundharām । sarvalōkātigasyēva lakṣyatē cittavikriyā ॥ Neither his commitment to go to the Vana, nor giving up the empire of the earth seemed to disturb his mind. He was like a sage beyond the concerns of all the worlds!
2.19.34	प्रतिषिध्य शुभं छत्रं व्यजने च स्वलङ्कृते । विसर्जयित्वा स्वजनं रथं पौरांस्तथा जनान् ॥ pratiṣidhya ṡubhaṃ chatraṃ vyajanē ca svalaṅkṛtē । visarjayitvā svajanaṃ rathaṃ paurāṃstathā janān ॥ He forsook the well decorated fly-whisks and umbrella. He left all his kith and kin, the chariot, the citizens and all the people behind.
2.19.35	धारयन् मनसा दुःखमिन्द्रियाणि निगृह्य च । प्रविवेशात्मवान्वेश्म मातुरप्रियशंसिवान् ॥ dhārayan manasā duḥkhamindriyāṇi nigṛhya ca । pravivēṡātmavānvēṡma māturapriyaṡaṃsivān ॥ Keeping all the sadness unto himself and controlling all his senses, that man of great composure entered his mother’s house to convey the unpleasant news!
2.19.36	सर्वोह्यभिजनश्श्रीमान् श्रीमतस्सत्यवादिनः । नालक्षयत रामस्य किञ्चिदाकारमानने ॥ sarvōhyabhijanaṡṡrīmān ṡrīmatassatyavādinaḥ । nālakṣayata rāmasya kiñcidākāramānanē ॥ None of the festive throng around could detect a trace of change on the face of that ever-gracious adherent of truth.
2.19.37	उचितं च महाबाहुर्नजहौहर्षमात्मनः । शारद स्समुदीर्णांशुश्चन्द्रस्तेज इवात्मजम् ॥ ucitaṃ ca mahābāhurnajahauharṣamātmanaḥ । ṡārada ssamudīrṇāṃṡuṡcandrastēja ivātmajam ॥ That mighty armed man did not forsake his pleasant disposition which was characteristic of him, like the splendid shine is for the moon in the post-monsoon sky!
2.19.38	वाचा मधुरया रामस्सर्वं सम्मानयञ्जनम् । मातुस्समीपं धीरात्मा प्रविवेश महायशाः ॥ vācā madhurayā rāmassarvaṃ sammānayañjanam । mātussamīpaṃ dhīrātmā pravivēṡa mahāyaṡāḥ ॥ After greeting all the people around in the most pleasing manner that Dheera of spotless renown approached his mother.
2.19.39	तं गुणैस्समतां प्राप्तो भ्राता विपुलविक्रमः । सौमित्रिरनुवव्राज धारयन्दुःखमात्मजम् ॥ taṃ guṇaissamatāṃ prāptō bhrātā vipulavikramaḥ । saumitriranuvavrāja dhārayanduḥkhamātmajam ॥ His brother, the son of Sumitrā, of exceeding valor, no less in nobility in comparison to him, followed him, keeping the sadness unto himself!
2.19.40	प्रविश्य वेश्मातिभृशं मुदाऽन्वितं समीक्ष्य तां चार्थविपत्तिमागताम् । न चैव रामोऽत्रजगामविक्रियां सुहृज्जनस्यात्मविपत्तिशङ्कया ॥ praviṡya vēṡmātibhṛṡaṃ mudā'nvitaṃ samīkṣya tāṃ cārthavipattimāgatām । na caiva rāmō'trajagāmavikriyāṃ suhṛjjanasyātmavipattiṡaṅkayā ॥ He entered the house that was full of joy, making sure that he showed no sign of the adversity that had befallen, for fear of disquieting his near and dear.
	इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये अयोध्याकाण्डे एकोनविंशस्सर्गः ॥ ityārṣē ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīyē ādikāvyē ayōdhyākāṇḍē ēkōnaviṃṡassargaḥ ॥ Thus concludes the nineteenth Sarga in Ayōdhyā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa, the first ever poem of humankind, composed by Vālmeeki.
	We completed reading 3111 Ṡlōkas out of ~24,000 Ṡlōkas of Vālmeeki Rāmāyaṇa.

நமஸ்காரம். நான் வால்மீகி ராமாயணம் படித்து கொண்டிருக்கிறேன். அதில் எனக்கு ஒரு சந்தேகம். கைகேயி ஸ்ரீ ராமனிடம் தசரதன் தந்த இருவரங்களை பற்றி சொல்லி  அதை நிறைவேற்றுவது ராமனின் கடமை என்று சொல்கிறாள். ராமன் அதை நிறைவேற்றுவதாக உறுதியளித்து பேசுகிறான். பரதனுக்கு எனது ராஜ்ஜியம் சொத்து வாழ்க்கை மேலும் என்சீதையையும் கொடுக்கத்தயாராக உள்ளேன் என்று சொல்கிறான்.  அதற்க்கான மூல ஸ்லோகம் இது. अहं हि सीतां राज्यं च प्राणानिष्टान्धनानि च। 
हृष्टो भ्रात्रे स्वयं दद्यां भरतायाप्रचोदितः।।2.19.7।। நான் தெரிந்து கொள்ள விரும்புவது இந்த ஸ்லோகத்திற்கு வேறு ஏதாவது பொருள் உள்ளதா? ராமன் ஏன் அப்படிச் சொன்னார். இதற்கு விளக்கம் அளிக்குமாறு கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன்.

USAGE OF GRAMMAR IN SANSKRIT IS SOMETHING SUPERB. WE CAN NOT TAKE A MEANING AS 1+1 =2.

THERE MAY BE HIDDEN PHILOSOPHICAL DEFINITIONS.........ON EARTH,  ONLY 

THE GREAT SAGES  LIKE  .....THE PRATHYASHA DEVATHA...MAHA PERIYAVA ..OF . KANCHI KAMAKOTI ....CAN DEFINE .....OF COURSE   UNFORTUNATELY HE IS NOT WITH US PHYSICALLY......
