Stuck with Chandrayaan-2 TMC-2 Fore/Aft processing (spiceinit / isd_generate errors)

Hello everyone,

I’m trying to set up some Chandrayaan-2 TMC-2 Fore and Aft images for stereo processing, but I've run into an issue right at the camera initialization step.

For my setup, I'm currently running ASP 3.7.0, ISIS 10.0.0_RC2, ALE 1.2.0, and USGSCSM 2.0.2.

I've already ingested the Fore and Aft data into .cub files along with their .img and .xml files. When I try running spiceinit on them, ISIS points me toward the CSM camera model with this message:

"Cube [PATH] has instrument [CH2_TMC_FORE].  Support for AFT or FORE cubes is not available in the chandrayaan2 TMC-2 ISIS Camera model. Please use the CSM camera model by running csminit ."

So, following that cue, I skipped spiceinit and tried running isd_generate directly to build the ISD file for csminit. But it immediately fails with:

No Viable Driver for Label.

Since I'm on recent builds across the board, I'm wondering if I'm missing a required intermediate step or handling the input files incorrectly. Any tips or a working workflow would be a huge help!

I thought that ale=1.1.3 that we suggest should work. Check what you have.

If in no luck, try installing our own recently one, such as:

conda install nasa-ames-stereo-pipeline::ale

This will hopefully pull in version 1.2.0 I pushed there a couple of weeks ago.

To add to previous, I cannot reproduce this. But what you can do, if no luck with my earlier suggestion, is to do isd_generate with the -v flag. It will print a lot of stuff, and one should see the exact errors mentioning chandrayaan2.

Then, this got fixed: "Cube [PATH] has instrument [CH2_TMC_FORE].  Support for AFT or FORE cubes is not available in the chandrayaan2 TMC-2 ISIS Camera model. Please use the CSM camera model by running csminit ."

Try installing our latest ASP with conda, which comes with a recent ISIS that surely has the fix. See https://stereopipeline.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation.html#conda-based-installation.

ISIS also publishes dev snapshots every two weeks that should fix at least the first error, so spiceinit and isd_generate wtih -k should work. See https://astrogeology.usgs.gov/docs/how-to-guides/environment-setup-and-maintenance/installing-isis-via-anaconda/.

Try to see if you set ALESPICEROOT and ISISDATA (the verbose invocation may say something about these, perhaps). See if you have the needed kernels and other data.
