Joe's Friday Special Report 2/27/26

Ten of us faced a head wind as we headed south to the Ferry Landing, with just one doing the 20 mile route with a turn back at Simpson Creek. At the Fort George bridge I was trying to pull our pace line into that wind going slower and slower. I was convinced the Laughing Gulls flying above us were laughing at me! The aroma from the BBQ place, with the wind direction just right, permeated the pavilion for our rest stop. Definitely smelled good and encouraged us to get going for the return ride and have some lunch. With the tail wind we came off Fort George bridge at 29 mph, no gulls laughing this time. Even with the tailwind I am so out of shape that I pulled over to the trail at Simpson Creek and road back at a C pace. A Black Vulture was enjoying a fresh kill near the second traffic circle. Surely, he would have company soon. Burney Road had auto moving tractor trailers parked for the Auto Show. Chain link fence was up around the golf course as preparations are underway. Next week registration for this ride will be on the new, much easier to navigate, website.

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

Although we’re having showers and rain today, tomorrow morning looks like it will be rain-free with clouds and temperatures varying from 56-60 degrees with winds out of the NE from 11-12mph.

If weather conditions change, I’ll write again tomorrow morning by 7:45am.

Although Susan T won’t be with us, I look forward to seeing many of you.

Hello All,

We had another successful and uneventful ride around Amelia Island this morning.  There were 12 of us who rode in somewhat chilly temperatures with notable winds from the NE.  It was misting at the start, but no rain throughout (only clouds).  We had a new rider join us, Ken, most recently from Nashville.  He moved to the Island in October and this was his first ride with us.

As usual, I forgot to snap photos and no one reminded me, so you’ll have to take my word for who rode today.  No mechanicals, flats, or falls to report — thanks to the care that our fellow cyclists exercised.
