We had 11 folks registered for our tour of the islands this morning. Jerry was visiting from way south Florida, Sally stops in to say Hi, and Susan and Don were heading south as well. The humidity was up but it did not rain.  We had a good Safety Briefing - after the main items we talked about options and turn points for utilizing the Amelia Island bike trail.  I'll work on updating the recommended track for each of our official mileage options for this ride.  My screen shot below is a left at the Big Talbot park entrance to follow the bike trail  all the way through Little Talbot on the trail over the Fort George Bridge, use the north bound bike lane for 0.3 mile and then the bike trail to the Ferry Pavilion.  Going north the same except I stayed on A1A all the way on Big Talbot.  We can keep coming up with the best options for a safer overall route.  No mechanicals or flats to report.  Thanks everyone for all the visits with Joe. It's truly caring for his recovery.

Mike P, Amy, and Mike S were on a Zoom meeting this morning to look at improvements in the bike trail, bike lane and  other items to make it a safer ride.  Thank them if you see them and it will interesting to see the feedback.

Stay Safe
Doug

Doug, After investigating Talbot State Park I found the following. For a rest stop, the north parking lot, pavilions #1 or #2, the most northerly pavilions. They have a small view of the water. There are restrooms at both north and south end of the north parking lot. The four pavilions near the south end of the island are closed, and there is no view anyway. The other rest stop option is the hexagonal pavilion on the bike trail near the most southerly parking lot. … Rich W

Rich,

I assume you were referring to the trail at Little Talbot State Park.  Frankly, I think Little Talbot is a gem and I'm going to "recommend" when I lead any ride south to Mayport that we all ride on the trails through Little Talbot and Big Talbot State Parks in BOTH directions.  The speed will have to suffer a little bit.

Incidentally, the pavilion at the parking lot on Little Talbot (not sure if it's #1 or #2) has restrooms and a water fountain.  It's not cold but it is a water fountain.  The Park gate entrance has a water fountain and bottle filler with cold water but sadly no restrooms.

George,

On Little Talbot, going south, after the chain stopping traffic is a good spot to form a pace line on the road with no traffic.
Should be safe for a short sprint.
