Doug,
Thanks for the report and for leading yesterday. Mike Pikula and I are reaching out to FDOT and their contractor today to ask to have the bike lanes on the south end of the island and on the Talbot islands cleared of the residual asphalt “ridge” that remained after the installation of the rumble strips. The lane remains adequately wide on Amelia Island. Sections thru the Talbots will be quite narrow with the strip in place. More to come.

It was a great day to ride the islands! We had 16 Folks show up to enjoy it. It was also terrific to see our friend Skeeter and Carol back with on the dually. After a safety briefing with the focus keep it safe there was an additional new hazard! Just south of the roundabouts the DOT has added the dreaded rumble strips in the bike lane. To make it worse there is a lot of gravel as a result. There are breaks in the strips so you can carefully switch to the lane when needed. Please watch out. It made me more likely to switch to the Amelia Island Trail at Big Talbot. We had some enjoy the day by taking the ferry over for lunch. Not reports of flats or mechanicals. I will be leading next week.
Stay Safe
Doug
