So, I've had a V2.0.6 Pro kit for years, and finally found the space to build it. (Long story there...)
When I go to run the initial tests, kill-the-bit does not run. Nothing makes much sense, all of the LEDs appear to light at various times, but such things as "Examine/Examine Next" do not set the address. I guess my next step needs to be trying to see if the Arduino is sane (I have not messed with the oriiginal Arduiino or it's programming, I have had the emulator runniing via a soft front panel on a purchased Due, just to see how it plays but this is the first time I've had real hardware. )
So, where would someone experienced start? The lights blink, the switches do things, but not what they're supposed to do, so, where to start?

Check your soldering on the 90+ header pins where the Arduino plugs in.  Each switch and each LED is controlled by a single pin.  The toggle switches also may have built up some oxidation on the contacts depending on the environment where they were stored.  Toggle them back and forth rapidly a fe dozen times and see if that helps.  Check the switches with a multimeter to make sure they're actually making contact.  I really doubt it's the Arduino.  Keep looking at your soldering and the condition of the switches.

And once again I embarrass myself greatly.

What was wrong ?
Nothing. Other than not being able to follow directions for a simple test. For some reason I kept setting the data switches to ‘1’ instead of ‘2’. That’s it. Everything else worked fine.

Oh, I'm not done. Trying to get the wifi. connectiion working, iit connects, but not seeing any data. Alas I'm runniing out of time, as other prioritiies are pushiing at me, and I'm "borrowiing" the dining table for space, and the wiife comes home Tuesday...

How is the WiFi connected?  You need to disable either the VT100 emulator or the DB9 serial port, or use the RX/TX LED "hack".

Yeah, I'm using the RX/TX led hack. That seems a bit... sketchy, but it looks Ok. If I get time before I have to restore everything, I'll get a 'scope probe in there and see if there's data.
Hmmm, a thought. The Due is still rocking the original software. When did the setting to activate the Rx/Tx LED port become standard (uh, did it?) That could be the issue.

You can (and should) download the latest build from the website: https://adwaterandstir.com/install/

BTW, the USE_SERIAL_ON_RXLTXL precompiler directive does not "activate" the RX/TX, it simply makes it available to select in the configuration.

Did you set up a configuration to use the RX/TX LEDs?

Yes, it took a while to work out what the configuration was doing, but I thiink I have it set. Worth another look or two, anyways. The board *is* mostly working, I've had it using the built-in vt100 quite successfully.
