Thanks Gerry.

All, I talked with Stan Drew of Golden Images who did a project for Region 4 scanning old Newscasts.  He has also done projects for AIS.

There are a number of line art drawings in the handbook that we probably want to capture.  He would be interested in scanning them into files we could insert into the Word documents of the handbook chapters.  If there are chapters that are not re-typed yet he would be interested in scanning those into Word for us.

Let me know if we want to explore this further.

I can highly recommend Chris at Golden Images. He has done a lot of work for AIS including scanning all the old bulletins for our online library.

I believe most if not all the illustrations in the JT Handbook were done by Tom Waters. They have suffered by being several generations of copies. If we were to decide to use them it would best to try to locate the originals. I do think illustrations can sometimes show things better than images, but I think we should be looking seriously about how to illustrate the JT Handbook with colored images provided we can find appropriate ones.

Hi Bob, I agree with you on both fronts, and I think a mix of illustrations, where appropriate, and color images is the way to go.  The use of color images may, in some cases, allow for more detailed explanations for our Judges citing the specific colorations in different areas of the blossoms.  I will check with Tom and see if he has the originals.

Thanks Bob,

Doug

Hi Folks,

It is great to have access to this.

Might I suggest that someone with appropriate access permission change the file names to a standard format.  It would be nice to see this in the order of chapters or the order of update.

An example might be "Chapter 01: Accreditation of Judges" (The leading zero on chapter numbers will provide correct sorting.  Really the format is not important as long as it is consistent. (AIS-JHB 01 Accreditation of Judges OR  01: Accreditation of Judges, etc.)
