Permissions problems

I started up Airdata for the first time in a while, and on the data page i saw that my flight from a week ago was not listed. That flight is available on DJI Fly app (under Profile - More).
On Airdata's settings, i forced a Sync Now . . . shows No New Files.

Under the Manage Permissions button, in red it states "Missing Permissions" - so i went to the "Manage Permissions"  and read the Info about giving permission manually for AirData UAV to access files produced by other apps.

The only app listed was DJI Fly. When i tapped on that, i get placed in a file system viewer. I can't find DJI Fly's folder in there. I also tried making a new Airdata folder, and selecting "Use this folder". I'll get a dialog that asks "Allow AirData UAV to access files in Airdata? I tell it allow - and I get "Invalid folder - It seems that an incorrect folder was selected. Please try again".

I can't seem to get beyond this!

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Airdata.

Please help. Thanks.

Google Pixel 7 Pro running Android 13.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for sharing this question. I'm happy to help.

I understand that you are trying to grant permissions to your flight apps in AirData UAV on Android.
Is this correct?

The confusion may be in that you are trying to locate a folder named AirData. Rather, AirData is asking for permission to read the system folder for DJI Fly.

Once you tap the "DJI Fly" checkbox, you will be taken to the DJI Fly folder. On the very next screen, you simply need to press the buttons for "Use this folder" -> "Allow".
You do not need to navigate anywhere or select a specific folder. You are already in the required folder, in this case ~Android/data/dji.go.v5

Please view this brief video for a demo of what we mean: https://vimeo.com/837726199/4bf97d20fa?
Please also see these annotated screenshots"
1) Select DJI Fly checkbox: https://share.cleanshot.com/5Ldq5f2D
2) Select "Use this folder" -> "Allow": https://share.cleanshot.com/x1yLs8Rc

Thank you. I hope this helps. Please send us an email at sup...@airdata.com if you have any further questions.

Best Regards,
Tom

Yes, i understand that Airdata needs to access the data from DJI Fly - but it's not available. Here are three relevant screenshots. There is no getting to DJI Folder. And just for grins, and even reinstalled DJI Fly - still no joy.

Ideas - or is Airdata no longer compatible with Android file systems?

Hi Adam,

Thank you for following up with this info.

To grant access to DJI Fly, please navigate to Android/data/dji.go.v5 on your remote controller.

The AirData UAV app for Android is intended to open to the correct system folder from Manage Permissions.
However, there are exceptions on specific devices, such as yours. Our engineering team is looking into a fix.

Please keep an eye on https://airdata.com/ad/ for future releases for Android-based remote controllers.
Thank you. Feel free to reach out to us at sup...@airdata.com if you have any additional questions.

Best Regards,
Tom

Thanks for writing, Tom,

Ad your can see, I can't even get the choice to drill down to Android | data, and am not allowed to select the Android or the root folder.

Hi Adam,

Can you please send us an email at sup...@airdata.com containing your earlier screenshots as well as the exact model of your remote controller?

We will then ask our engineering team to do some additional testing for that specific device.

Thank you,
Tom

Hi Adam,

I spoke to our engineering team and they had a followup question.

When you email sup...@airdata.com, could you include the Android version number for your device?
If you updated your Pixel to Android 14, the current Manage Permissions tab will not work as expected.
The team was able to reproduce this when testing on Android 14 and are currently working on a new version that addresses this issue.

Thank you,

Hi Adam,

After thorough discussion with our engineering team, it has been confirmed that Android 14 poses a significant challenge by restricting access to folders under Android data. This issue is not unique to AirData UAV but is affecting numerous applications due to increased security measures introduced by Google. We acknowledge that this situation is causing inconvenience to many users, including those with Pixel 7 Pros who are still on Android 13.

At this time, we regret to inform you that there is no definitive timeline for when this issue will be fully resolved. However, please be assured that our team is actively working towards finding a suitable resolution to this problem.

Direct DJI Sync
In the meantime, as an alternative sync method, users can utilize Direct DJI Sync for uploading flight logs to AirData.
Users will need to add their DJI credentials to AirData in My Account -> DJI Login.
We have written step-by-step instructions for setup here: https://app.airdata.com/sync-app-server?instr=1

We will keep you informed about any developments, updates, or workarounds related to this issue as soon as they become available. If you encounter any other challenges or have further questions, please feel free to reach out to us, and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work towards a solution to this matter.

Best regards,
Teresa
