Update on Food System Steering Committee meeting at NPC

Greetings!

 

I would like to share the update of a meeting at NPC. NPC has acknowledged (and appreciate) contributions from INGOs as some of AIN members have shared their commitment (back in 2021/22) to support the implementation of national pathways, and also engaged in FS dialogues.

 

NPC shared following progress.

• Provincial Food Systems Review and Planning Workshop completed in all Provinces,
• NPC approved Food Systems Transformation Strategic Plan (a National Policy),
• M&E Framework developed; will be finalized soon,
• Publication of Food Systems Transformation: Context, Pathways and Actions,
• Budget preparation directive FY 2080/81 includes Food Systems Transformation Actions,
• Plan prepared for the Localization of Food System Pathways, a pilot initiative supported by the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, Rome,
• NPC attended Convenors’ Meeting (15 March) to discuss and share expectations about Food Systems Stocktaking Moment (STM), planned for coming July.   

 

The meeting was ended with following notes from the chair.

 

• Now we have moved from the formulation of policy to the implementation of food systems transformation national pathways actions; hence, government agencies, development partners and stakeholders are requested to prioritize the actions and make plan accordingly,
• Ministries are requested to provide inputs to the strategic plan within a week; this will facilitate NPC to move the document to the Council of Ministers for final approval.
• We also expect feedback to the M&E framework.
• All these being part of the formulation of documents, we need to put emphasis and work on producing food. This is what is needed concretely. Therefore, there is need of localization of food systems actions for producing nutritious food in affordable price. This requires working beyond food in a multi-sectoral approach. Involvement of private sector is very important in this respect.         

 

I will continue to update on any progress as I get them. Please also find some additional information attached with this email.
