Hello everyone,

We hope you are well in your every corner of the world”

Cindy and I apologise for a longer silence – both of us have been caught up either in personal issues or professional ones. But we do have plans for the final two years of our last (quite likely) term of the AILA network. We have put these plans in the document attached.

We would like to spotlight the following:

  1. We very much welcome updates on your publications and ongoing projects that are of interest to the group. This is our first call now – and we plan to message for these quarterly. However, it doesn’t have to be only at those time. We are happy to learn about what colleagues are doing and where in the world. So please do promote your publications and projects on this page!

  1. The next event will be a reading webinar/In Conversation with the author. Should you like to have a recent publication discussed on one of these webinars, please message us! the strength and life of the network lies in its people! 😊

  1. As we anticipate that this may be the last term of our AILA, Cindy and I would like to organise a meeting with members of the PRISEAL international steering committee (Pamela Olmos-Lopez; Anoud Abusalim; Alejandro Lopez de Vergara Mendez; Baraa Khuder; James Corcoran; Theron Muller and cat.) to see how AILA could maybe fold into PRISEAL in the future – we don’t know yet if this meeting will be part of the next PRISEAL conference or a meeting on its own (plans for the next PRISEAL are still in progress as alas, the ways of the world in which we live, teach and research are rather precarious and challenging at the moment and Brazil is no longer on the cards.)

  1. We would like to start collecting short videos publicising existing projects or programmes across the world. Initially, we would like to upload these on our Youtube channel and then maybe archive them on a potential AILA/PRISEAL webpage. AILA are also keen now on multimodal network reporting as Cindy and I must produce a video of our term activities, projects and publications.

We hope the attached activities look exciting and interesting. We rely on your collaboration and participation for any of these plans to come to fruition.

Have a fine new academic year,

cat. and Cindy

Dear Cat and Cindy,

I just wanted to recognize your efforts and thank you for letting us know what you have been planning.

I also wonder who might be coming to Taipei next week for the Symposium on Second Language Writing! If you are, please let me know!

Finally, I have a recent publication that might be of interest:
Sheridan, C. L. (2025). Languages of publication among multilingual researchers: Locality to mobility in the Taiwan context. Journal of English for Academic Purposes, 75, 101501. https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jeap.2025.101501

Wishing everyone the best as the semester gets into high gear!

Best,

Dear Cheryl,

With unfortunate delay (motivated, at my end, by institutional restructuring), thank you very much for your support and kind words. We appreciate it. I know already that you met with Cindy at the Second Language Writing conference in Taipei and possibly with other colleagues on this list. I hope it was a great event.

Thank you also for letting us know about your most recent publication, congratulations!

I would like to use your announcement as an opportunity to remind all members of our network to send us updates about recent publications, programmes or projects (forthcoming, ongoing or completed) as we also need this information for our regular AILA reporting. These can be in any form or shape: lists, tables, diagrams, short videos, hyperlinks. Thank you!

In other news, we are in the process of preparing our next “In Conversation with the Author” virtual seminar, postponed from the autumn, and we will spread the news once we have pinned down all the details. It will most likely take place in February.

warmly,

cat. and Cindy
