Second Call for Papers: ICAPS 2020

ICAPS 2020, the 30th International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling, will take place in Nancy, France, June 14-19, 2020.
ICAPS 2020 is part of the ICAPS conference series, the premier forum for exchanging news and research results on theory and applications of intelligent planning and scheduling technology.

ICAPS 2020 will feature 5 different tracks:

*** Main Track (link
*** Novel Applications Track (link)
*** Special Track on Human and Robotics (link)
*** Special Track on Knowledge Engineering, Integrated Execution, and System Architectures (link)
*** Special Track on Planning and Learning (link)

Important Dates

November 15, 2019 Abstracts due (electronic submission)
November 20, 2019 Papers due (electronic submission, PDF)
January 6-8, 2020 Author feedback period
January 20, 2020 Notification of acceptance or rejection

The reference timezone for all deadlines is UTC-12. That is, as long as there is still some place anywhere in the world where the deadline has not yet passed, you are on time!

Author Guidelines

Authors may submit long papers (8 pages AAAI style plus up to one page of references) or short papers (4 pages plus up to one page of references). The type of paper must be indicated at submission time. All papers, regardless of length, will be reviewed against the standard criteria of relevance, originality, significance, clarity, soundness, and are expected to meet the same high standards set by ICAPS. Short papers may be of narrower scope, for example by addressing a highly specific issue, or proposing or evaluating a small, yet important, extension of previous work or new idea. Overlength papers will be rejected without review.

Authors making multiple submissions must ensure that each submission has significant unique content. Papers submitted to ICAPS 2020 may not be submitted to other conferences or journals during the ICAPS 2020 review period nor may they be already under review or published in other conferences or journals.

We will have an arrangement with ECAI 2020, through which selected papers reviewed by the ICAPS 2020 program committee, instead of being simply rejected, will be transferred (together with their reviews) to the ECAI 2020 program committee for consideration as ECAI2020 submissions, and vice versa. Author’s permission for this transfer will be asked in the submission form.

As the ICAPS 2020 notification date falls between the IJCAI 2020 abstract and full paper submission dates, ICAPS allows abstract submission to IJCAI with the expectation that papers accepted to ICAPS will be withdrawn from IJCAI. [Authors are responsible for knowing and following the appropriate IJCAI rules.]

Submission Instructions

All submissions will be made electronically, through the EasyChair conference system:

https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icaps2020

Submitted PDF papers should be anonymous for double-blind reviewing, adhere to the page limits of the relevant track CFP/submission type (long or short), and follow the AAAI author kit instructions for formatting: https://www.aaai.org/Publications/Templates/AuthorKit20.zip

In addition to the submitted PDF paper, authors can submit supplementary material (videos, technical proofs, additional experimental results) for their paper. Please make sure that the supporting material is also anonymized. Papers should be self-contained; reviewers are encouraged, but not obligated, to consider supporting material in their decision.

ICAPS 2020 Journal Track - Call for Papers

The program committee of the 30th International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling (ICAPS) invites submissions of published journal papers for the Journal Presentation Track, successfully initiated in 2014.

The track is designed to provide a forum to discuss important results related to automated planning and scheduling that appeared recently (from March 2019 onwards) in selective journals, but have not been previously presented either at ICAPS or at any other major AI conference (such as IJCAI, AAAI, ECAI).

The goal of this track is twofold:

To provide authors an opportunity to present at the conference important results published in journals that might otherwise not be submitted to the conference due to their length and complexity. Papers that differ from traditional ICAPS format and topics are welcome.

To broaden the program with lines of work at the intersection between planning/scheduling and related fields such as for example constraint programming, operations research, control, knowledge representation and reasoning, machine learning, multi-agent systems, robotics, computer games, and cognitive science. Papers that use planning and scheduling in some innovative way (even if they do not advance the planning technology itself) are welcome.

Paper Presentation

All accepted journal presentations will be presented orally during the conference - at least one author is expected to register to ICAPS 2020 and to present the paper in person. Complete citations, abstracts and URLs of the original journal papers (if available from the publisher) will be published at ICAPS 2020 web site as a permanent reference.

Submission Requirements

Journal track submissions must meet the following criteria:

Candidate papers must be published in a journal such as (but not limited to) AIJ, AURO, JAIR, JAAMAS, KER and other leading journals relevant to each research area from March 2019 until the submission deadline. Papers that are in press may be submitted as long as the final camera-ready version is available. Extensions of papers that have been previously presented at ICAPS or another major AI conference (such as IJCAI, AAAI, ECAI) may be submitted to this track. However, submissions will be reviewed upon the strength of the new content.

Submission Process

All submissions will be done via EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icaps2020). The submission will be in the following format (please include all elements other than the title and abstract as a single PDF):

  • Title of the original journal paper (to be published on the Web);

  • Complete reference of the original paper (to be published on the Web);

  • URL where the paper can be downloaded from the publisher if available, or alternatively a preprint (to be published on the Web);

  • Abstract of the paper (to be published on the Web);

  • An accompanying cover letter containing a brief summary of the key results and contributions as well as an explanation of why this paper is interesting to the ICAPS community;

  • A copy of the paper with its final camera-ready contents.

Submissions will go through an expedited selection process led by the track chairs. Selection criteria include significance of the results, relevance to the planning and scheduling community, and contribution to diversification of traditional ICAPS topics.

Important Dates

Submission deadline: March 24, 2020

Notification of acceptance: April 10, 2020

Main conference sessions: July 14-19, 2020

Dear Members of the ICAPS Community,

The spread of the COVID-19 disease has forced us to make the hard choice
to postpone ICAPS to the fall of 2020 - exact dates will be announced as
soon as possible.
We have made this decision with a heavy heart, and the support of the
ICAPS council, to guarantee the health and safety of the ICAPS
community, and try to make sure as many of you as possible will be able
to attend ICAPS.

We expect workshop and demo submission deadlines will be delayed
accordingly, please stay tuned to announcement from each workshop. We
will also still support remote presentations for authors who will be
unable to attend, and remote participation to the best of our ability.

We hope to see you at ICAPS 2020 in Nancy soon.

Dear Members of the ICAPS Community,

we have now determined the exact dates for the postponed conference:

October 26 - 30

These dates make it plausible that the conference can take place
physically; and they don't change the location plans as the Nancy venue
is available at this time.

Like we said before, we will also still support remote presentations for
authors who will be unable to attend, and remote participation to the
best of our ability. In the extreme case that COVID-19 makes it
impossible to hold the conference physically even at this late date, we
will consider to move the entire conference online.

We hope to see you at ICAPS 2020 in October.
