Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Thank you sincerely to all who have supported and voted for me.
I am deeply honored to present my candidacy for the AfHEA Board of Trustees, representing the East Africa (English-speaking/Anglophone) region. I am committed to service, to amplifying our collective voice, and to advancing the role of health economics in shaping Africa’s future.
With more than a decade of experience in public health, health systems, and health economics research, I have had the privilege of contributing to both national and continental initiatives. At the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), and through my consultancy and coordination work with Equitable Access to COVID-19 Vaccines in Africa (ECOVA)—a collaborative initiative of AfHEA, Africa CDC, and UNECA—I have led and published key research for Ethiopia and contributed to work spanning six African countries.
My portfolio ranges from cost-effectiveness analyses on tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases, and maternal health interventions to leading the National Health Equity Survey in Ethiopia. I have published widely in international journals and served as principal investigator on several high-impact studies, including evaluations of COVID-19 interventions, the WHO-HEARTS hypertension control program, and micronutrient supplementation.
My guiding principle has always been clear: decisions must be driven by evidence, equity, and collaboration.
If elected to the AfHEA Board, I will:
Strengthen networks for joint research, mentorship, and policy exchange across Africa.
Promote the integration of cost-effectiveness, HTA, and equity-focused research into national decision-making.
Facilitate the translation of research into actionable policy through briefs, dialogues, and advocacy.
Advance gender equity, digital tools, and capacity building for emerging health economists.
Ensure our region’s priorities and experiences shape AfHEA’s agenda and broader continental health reforms.
I would be truly grateful for your continued support as we take this next step together.
Warm regards,
Senait Alemayehu Beshah
