The time Buhari and his people have invested in defending this 'affidavit' is more than enough to go to the 'military council' and get copies of Buhari's certificates. This seemed like njakiri when it started but is starting to look like another BAT University in chicago saga.

Military Academies: Sandhurst, US Naval Academy, US Air Force Academy, West Point, etc., are in the higher echelons of higher education. They award degrees like other institutions and the education obtained there include very broad fields of studies in addition to military strategies. They admit only the best and brightest students. Buhari's education is beyond reproach.
However if he failed to submit his credentials in time that would be a serious mistake and the blame for not doing so would rest squarely on APC Secretariat. What purpose did the N27 million application fees serve if not to ensure that the requirements by INEC and the constitution are met. I mentioned in the past that what is called application fees is actually processing fees. The fees paid for clerks who review the forms.

To your question, the answer is simple. Military school is for Military education and modern military strategies now encompass other disciplines like medical, legal, IT, communications, network security, etc that it is inevitable that attendance at such non-military educational institutions is towards this goal. 
 
I have been in class with us military men in business, it and aviation schools and medical residency training in this country‎.

This is not actually true. Today Nigerian army advertise for university graduates to fill certain positions. In the USA army men and women attend regular institutions for their degrees while also attending military school for military related education. If the below is the case why would they bother doing as they do? Americans are paying for this education and surely wouldn't tolerate this wastage. America is not Nigeria where criminals are heads of service.

Calling Buhari a semi-illiterate is silly and shows the ignorance of those who refer to him as such. Now GEJ with his all same local university education is a walking example of what inbred education can lead to - a clueless and dull approach to issues including leadership. M
 
On the 1983 coup, Buhari was never involved in the planning of that coup. The coup was led by a Brigadier Bako who was shot while approaching Aso Rock to arrest Shagari. The vacuum created led to the need for a new leadership after the success of the coup which where Buhari came in. Unfortunately, he was not a member of the original gang of IBB, Abacha, Dogonyaro, Mark and Bako and once he was not playing their game towards self-enrichment, they had to get rid of him. Most of the actions purported to be under him were actually by IBB and Abacha while he was making attempts to stop them leading to his quick removal. 
 
I do remember him visiting UBTH while I was a junior doctor as the HOS and he saw a kid in the PACU with kwashiorkor and flaked skin which he thought was burns and he was told it was due to malnutrition and one could see the shock on his face and he exclaimed "Kai ", as a further sign of the shock. 
 
As a Nigerian, I stand firmly in the belief that Buhari is the beatbox the current bunch of contestants for the presidency and another 4 years of GEJ will be a disaster. Looting the treasury dry is one thing but selling our iconic treasures and landmark is the worst thing in corruption. I have always stated the fact that sooner or later, there may be a column geared towards ensuring that these individuals cough out all that they have stolen.

Nigeria has had enough of military rule period. Nigeria will never never go back to the Caliphates again. The country won her freedom and will not lose it. We have more eligible candidates without any military mix up. Some one who must be guided by the constitution of the land and not a ruler. Let no one think of fooling the citizens any further. When Yaradua came up Nigerians were jubilating that the country finally had a university graduate and now the current president with the same university education is referred to as fisherman. SHAME on all of you double talkers.

The General’s people are not serving him well.  What is not supposed to be an issue is one now, and is causing a serious reassessment of General Buhari’s image, which is being tarnished at a rapid accelerating speed.  In this past few months or so, everything we thought we knew about the man has been damaged.  For example:

 

·      He didn’t participate, but accepted HOS (in a coup), that set aside the will of all Nigerians by removing a democratically elected president (Disregard for the democratic process).  Now, he wants to be elected to govern the same country (Indefensible). Keepers of stolen merchandise are just as guilty as the highway robbers who stole them.  Period.

·      He is supposed to be the champion of anti-corruption, but has recently stated that he will go after the past and known corrupt officials who looted everything has (voluntary relinquishment of the anti-corruption mantle).  It is said that he said that Abacha stole nothing from Nigeria, while large amount of funds stolen by Abacha are being repatriated to Nigeria (Intentional mistruth in the face of undisputable evidence)

·      He is said to be a humble man again contrary to his public utterances which suggest he is arrogant and considers himself above the law.  For example:  He said he has 2 or 3 houses and 150 cows as if having that many houses suggests the person is humble and simple.  And that is in a country where the average man subsists on less than 2 dollars per day.  And how many Nigerians even have one house?  Nothing wrong with having many houses, if that’s what one desires, but for a man styled to be humble to have that much, is not a testament to humility and simplicity by any standards anywhere in the world

·      He is presented to be a patient and controlled man.  But he led 2 lorry-load of Fulani men to the governor of some Western State to intimidate the governor right in his office.  The reason for this, was that 2 or so Fulani cow boys had been killed in that particular state.  Well, that is thuggish behavior and disregard for law as we know it.  Besides, Fulani Cow boys kill people all over Nigeria in places where they graze their cows e.g. and most recently in Irete, Owerri, Imo State.  But no ethnic leader has ever led a contingent of his people in a war-like fashion to any Fulani leader or governor to intimidate them.  Each case is left for the law to handle.

·      His statements on Sharia and using Islam to stoke up prime up violence in supporters when outcomes don’t favor him are well documented. His supporters have made things worse by relying on his volcanic temper to become very militant in defending him, but being very seldom successful in discounting documented evidence. In this discussion groups, his supporters are very verbally violent wishing people death and calling other candidates unprintable names.  They are the ones that have been raining abuses on the current president for being unintelligent and clueless, yet when it came to the General to produce his certificates, he failed to do so and instead presented an affidavit.  Affidavits from Nigeria are basically less valuable than a warm spit and he knows it.

These are just a few points where the image of the man is diametrically opposed to what he is supposed to be.  No insinuations, no concoctions, straight forward in the press evidence that suggests a disconnect between what the man is and what is he is dressed up to be.

Gregg,

Do you and Joe seriously believe Buhari violated "the requirement of any process" or "changing the rules and excuses for a person who violated them"? If INEC said an affidavit was acceptable in lieu of credentials, and Buhari provided an affidavit how can that be a violation? Is this the first time you see an affidavit being acceptable in lieu of the original copies of documents as part of a process? If INEC insisted on having the credentials and Buhari did not provide them, then it would have been a violation and he would have been sanctioned for it. Remember that Jonathan's running mate too provided an affidavit. And it is not as if Buhari's credentials have not been sighted at least three times in the past by INEC, apart from the fact that the credentials are with another government agency (which INEC can confirm with that other agency).

Like Bolaji Aluko said yesterday, Nigeria has serious problems that should concern us and concern the candidates more than spending so much time on credentials moreso since we know that the candidate is academically qualified, and he has done what INEC asked him to do (in lieu of the original copies of the credentials). By the way, is this not like asking for Obama's birth certificate which we all agreed was ridiculous? And you guys forget that your candidate's running mate's credentials have been eaten by goat, sorry fire! If you insist INEC must see the credentials or disqualify the candidate, then your Vice Presidential candidate will be disqualified as he cannot get credentials to produce. Our candidate will go to the Military Board to retrieve his credentials if he has to.

It would be nice for once for Buhari to simply comply with Nigeria's laws. There are too many excuses on practically everything. Imagine the lame excuse that he was "invited" to be hos and did not participate in the coup.  Ayo, if I invite you to come and fence materials that I tell you were stolen and you do it, are your morals higher than those of the people who stole the merchandise to start with? Would you people stomach such excuse if Buhari was from the SS? Just go and get the certificates and submit. You do not need me to tell you that Nigerian affidavit is suspect. Look at the ages of people on their passports and then look dem bodi. Here is one bottom line in this: the era of impunity for any ethnic group in Nigeria is over. We are all going to be under the law or above the law. It will be the same for everyone.

I read this "position" or "buy in" by the Cultists/Buharists that a man fears another man, and that is SUPPOSE to be a cherished positive trait or good quality of in a leader. In my thought process, I don't think so. If such position is taken, adopted, or presented amongst my peers or colleagues - you would be distance from. I mean, we would consider such "position" or "buy in" mentality abnormal. 

Seriously, such mentality is prevalent with "cultists" people. They belief in the power of instilling FEAR on weak minded population, to gain an edge. Amongst my peers and colleagues, one earns leadership position by concrete commitments and at least perceived as trustworthy. For the Buharists, it is about instilling FEAR. Guess what? The people were not fooled in 2003, and were not afraid to REJECT at the polls. 

The fear campaign was mounted again in 2007, Nigerians said nope! Then came 2011, mago mago wayo wayo wuru wuru all in full gear. Nigerians said NO to Buhari for the THIRD!!!

Reasonable people thought, 3 Strikes you are out! But, Buhari said am not done, because Buhari is a messiah, and accepted as a messiah by his followers (Buharists, regarded as "Cultists"), and indeed exhibit cultists characteristics.

Buhari in about 45 days, will AGAIN be gearing up for his 5th run, as the Buharists are already saying their Messiah, a Despot will run for office of president consecutively until he gets it, even if, Buhari could be 88 years old. Wow! This might be something to fear, another 16 years, possibly, of Buhari's public JACKOFFs.

It is the Yoruba elites that mocked him as kobokobo. With the packets of degrees they have they do not understand human dignity they have no understanding that there is understanding that all mankind are brethren. They did it during Aguiyi Ironsi they were calling him "agolo iresi".
Just as you wrote both Yaradua and Jonathan graduated from Nigerian Universities and Jonathan with PhD in very sound scientific related field, the Yoruba elite badmouth him in this forum. I do not even know of what use the many degrees some of them pack up are to Nigeria. Their own credential are questionable. These evil have made no attempt to contribute to Nigeria except waiting for appointments to high political office and when they do not have it they badmouth.
Ask them all these Professors and Doctors in this forum what they have attempted at least to contribute to Nigeria form their personal effort. They think that they are the only ones who read books.

Dear All:

The Johnathanians are so desperate they are now seeking a technical electoral victory by the back door--they are demanding for the DISQUALIFICATION  of their main opponent- Buhari based on perceived lack of sufficient academic qualifications notwithstanding that a WAEC certificate or its equivalent is the minimum requirement to be candidate for any political office in Nigeria.

The fact that Buhari has been cleared not only once but  in three previous elections by INEC is considered irrelevant by the anti-Buhari forces.

This is the equivalent of  a boxer in a boxing match seeking disqualification of his opponent
because the opponent is 'under weight', even though this advantage would theoretically be in his favour.

If Buhari is a semi-iliterate as we have been told, one would have expected that the Johnathanians
would by now be clamoring for televised Presidential candidates' debates across Nigeria so they
could have their candidate  who is a PhD holder demolish the less qualified cerebrally challenged ad less worldly -semi-literate world class general who had managed despite being semi-literate to have passed his exams at war colleges in Nigeria and the UK.

On this particular issue the Johnathanians are acting like the Nigerian equivalents of the hardcore members of the 'American Birther
Movement' to whom both the long and short form original Bitrh Certificates are insufficient as proof
of President Obama's place of birth.

The other false propaganda by the anti-Buhari forces is that Buhari is a hardcore Islamic fundamentalist who se main mission in life is to Islamize the whole of Nigeria.

This claim is so far fetched that it does not merit serious consideration.
If Buhari could cnot Islamize Nigeria when he ruled Nigeria by military fiat,
who is he going to do this in a democratic setting where any laws must pass thrpough
the HOR and the Senate and even if it managed to pass could be successfully challnged and overturned at the Supreme Court.

The bottom line is that Buhari is unlikely to turn Nigeria into an Islamic state in a democratic system with checks and balances provided by the Judiciary and the legislature to counter the immense powers of the Presidency.
Religious and ethnic scare mongering will not succeed in the elections slated for Feb 14, 2015!

Both GEJ and Buhari will attract voters from both major religions just as they would from
all ethnic groups and across both genders and age groups.

Most of the Nigerian electorate would cast their ballots based on who they passive would make \
better decisions that could ensure a brighter and more prosperous future for thmselves and their
families.

One man will emerge as the successful candidate by the time the last ballot is counted.
Nigerians would hopefully rally around the successful candidate regardless of their political
differences.


Folks, let us drop these inanities and start discussing the policy differences between the PDP and the APC platforms.

You are one of the few people on these forums that try to hide their position on controversial issues whereas you have a position. Instead, you want to appear as objective commentators. There is nothing in yours below that is "not supposed to be an issue  . . causing a serious reassessment of General Buhari's image, which is being tarnished at a rapid accelerating speed." There is nothing new in what you have written, and they have all been addressed in the past: It's not new that Buhari did not participate in the coup that brought him to power as military Head of State; how he deals with "past and known corrupt officials" does not diminish him as an "anti-corruption champion", the same with his comment about Abacha which he must have made based on information available to him when he made the statement; And there is nothing arrogant in Buhari making his assets public more so since it is not that the assets are not more than what someone of his status should have. I thought we should credit a public Nigerian who is transparent enough to declare his assets publicly.

Buhari's position on religion has been explained over and over again. Those of you that are bent on using religion to blackmail Buhari can never be convinced despite his explanations and what people like Bishop Kukar, Pastor Bakare and Prof (Pastor) Yemi Osinbajo may say about Buhari. I hope you are aware that Guardian newspaper and Abati (Jonathan's Special Adviser) apologized for linking Buhari with violence.
 
For your information, Buhari did not go to any Western governor with two lorry load of Fulani men and you cannot hold him or any other Fulani person responsible for what "Fulani cow boys" do all over Nigeria where their cows graze. In the same vein, you cannot hold Buhari responsible for what his supporters write or do.

Finally Gregg, if affidavit from Buhari and Jonathan's running mate is acceptable to INEC, do you think it speaks well of you and others to be having sleepless nights because affidavit was submitted by Buhari instead of original copies of his credentials?

Ayo—you see why it is difficult for Nigeria to move forward.  You are changing the rules and excuses for a person who violated them.  aA person whose claim to fame rests primarily in truth and honesty which in so many ways imply discipline.  Hope Nigeria will do the same for the next guy who violates the requirement of any process?  And the next guy…and the next guy.  Which means no rules obtain in Nigeria…for some people.  Scofflaws and Outlaws are welcome in Nigeria and should be tolerated.

Do seriously believe Buhari violated "the requirement of any process" or "changing the rules and excuses for a person who violated them"? If INEC said an affidavit was acceptable in lieu of credentials, and Buhari provided an affidavit how can that be a violation? Is this the first time you see an affidavit being acceptable in lieu of the original copies of documents as part of a process? If INEC insisted on having the credentials and Buhari did not provide them, then it would have been a violation and he would have been sanctioned for it. Remember that Jonathan's running mate too provided an affidavit. And it is not as if Buhari's credentials have not been sighted at least three times in the past by INEC, apart from the fact that the credentials are with another government agency (which INEC can confirm with that other agency).

The only reason it is an issue this time is to make GEJ's victory a tsunami so that Buhari will not disturb the country again with a 5th try for the presidency. In the 1960s, the NPC was just fabricating certificates for a lot of Northerners --mostly the Muslim Northrserne-- to push them into government, Army, Customs, etc.
 
Buhari MUST produce his authentic certificate, or quit this race. He must NOT go scot free on this one. Period!

Nobody gave any excuse. Buhari has never dissociated himself from the coup, people just state the fact concerning the coup when they say that Buhari was not one of the coupists. Unfortunately for Buhari, in his time, it was London GCE --not WAEC. So, if the APC is delaying and hoping too cook the books in favor of the Strong man, their bid will not go far.

Nigerian Army Has Buhari’s Academic Records, But He Needs To Apply

The director of public relations of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier Olaleye Lajide, has dismissed reports in the Nigerian media claiming that the army could not find academic records of General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.), the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The director of public relations of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier Olaleye Lajide, has dismissed reports in the Nigerian media claiming that the army could not find academic records of General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.), the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The military spokesman made the disclosure while responding to a text message from SaharaReporters seeking clarification about the status of Mr. Buhari’s records. Brigadier Lajide affirmed that the Nigerian Army is in possession of all records of serving, retired and deceased officers since its inception. He added, however, that all military officers are supposed to keep original copies of their certificates. 

According to him, in the event where an officer loses his or her original copy of records, the concerned officer must officially apply for copies from the army. He stated that the army responds to such requests in an expeditious manner. 

Brigadier Lajide told our correspondent that he was a former director of records at the Nigerian Army headquarters and had seen records of older and retired generals. He added that he was in no doubt that General Buhari’s records were intact.

Brigadier Olaleye insisted that the claim in a major Nigerian newspaper, that the army could not locate Mr. Buhari’s record was untrue.

Even if the Army said so, is it proper and a sign of serious leadership for Buhari to be late in everything required of him to present to INEC?

Well the whole thing is down to INEC. What is their requirement and how did they go about the previous elections in which GMB participated and their was no such noise. 

If INEC has changed their rules to make the game more competitive then I expect the candidates to know and be be well informed. And one who default should be punished. 

Anyway I heard INEC has cleared the mess started by vanguard as usual

Also like our employer INEC should have a system to verify claims directly from source. Our employer ll normally write our schools to verify our claims
