MONDAY QUARTER-BACKING:  The Nastiness of these Elections

by

Mobolaji Aluko, PhD

Monday March 24, 2015

_________________________________________________________________

My People:

We are the first last week of these elections, and I have to vent....so please come with me a moment......

I HATE these nasty elections that we are going through, and I cannot wait to have them end, first on Saturday, and then two Saturdays from then.  The elections are so nasty that even pointing out the nastiness makes it look as if one is supporting one side over the other, when in fact that is NOT the case....

And may they be free, fair and credible elections, and may be the person(s) truly chosen by the Nigerian people win. [Amen.]

An example of the elections' nastiness is what this Ukaga forumnite has just repeated below.

A lie - a nasty blatant lie - was told against political neophyte Aisha Buhari in her outing in Edo State on behalf of her husband, what is called in politics, the "Big Lie.".  She did NOT say what was quoted against her name,  yet this Ukaga fellow, who has "Senator" against his name on his mast-head, ignores that lie, and instead carries another set of TOXIC LIES against both Buhari and Aisha, hiding behind the notion that he (or she) was quoting one Sarah Obozuwa.

Aisha Buhari, from all credible records, is 44 years old, not 35.    She was born in  February 1971, not September 1979.  She was married on December 2, 1989, at age 18 and 10 months - past the age of consent -  not on August 13, 1989, not at age 9.  Yes, Buhari, born 17 December 1942, was 47 years, but they have now been married for 26 years, more than most marriages by two 25-year olds, some of who don't last beyond their honeymoon.  Clearly she looks gorgeous, and without her, Buhari would have probably looked much older than his 72 years.

In all of my years of monitoring elections both in Nigeria and in the US, I have NEVER seen such nastiness on a daily basis, in print and on the TV.    I hope that we NEVER have these kinds of elections again [Amen], which, according to the suave and more mature PDP Chairman Muazu, has been polluted by the bad talk of "little boys" and possibly older persons of other genders who should know better.

And there you have it.

PS:  By the way, our First Lady Patience Faka and Hopeful First Lady Aisha have gallantly "stood by their men."  Very commendable....Their profiles follow......

......and here is part of one of several responses to Mrs Buhari'' comment circulating in the web....

"In a swift response to Mrs. Buhari on Monday in Benin, Sarah Obozuwa, Founder of the Edo Women for Change (EWC) called on Edo women to forgive Mrs. Buhari. “Aisha Buhari was born on September 29, 1979. As of today, Mrs. Buhari is only 35 years of age. She was married to Buhari in August 13, 1989, at the age of 9. This means that Buhari at age 47, in 1989 was having sex with Aisha Buhari at the tender age of 9, an underage according to the constitution of Nigeria. So Mrs. Buhari is a victim of sustained childhood rape and her outbursts are understandable”, she said. Speaking further, Mrs. Obozuwa said: “How Buhari got Aisha Buhari pregnant at age 13 is a chilling story of a Buhari who defiled Aisha as a little child while she was visiting Zulai, Buhari’s eldest daughter who was her playmate. It is ironic how such a traumatized woman now stands at the vanguard of stigmatizing fellow women.”

Transcript Plus Video of Aisha Buhari's Speech in Edo.

Pls start watching from 2:16 what she said exactly: In each Zone of the Country, we have peculiar problems, Our Problems differs, for me in this zone, Girl child trafficking should be considered one of our problems Though i know there is unemployment, Unemployment is a Major factor that contributes to brain drain and girl child trafficking, Gen Buhari is a leader, he was a Leader, he led nigeria some decades ago and he is coming back now to sanitize the system. For those campaigning, saying that he is coming to jail Nigerians, I dont know what their fear is, but they shouldnt because we are all yearning for change, the insecurity of the country, the very very very bad healthcare system, lack of education and other basic necessitates that people are lacking, i think they need somebody like him now.

Already some years back, he has been contesting, they have painted him black using religion, I am happy today, Nigerians discover that, they use religion as the cover to loot Nigeria to Nonesense.

Whoever talks to you in this country, the politician that can talk to you about religion is a Liar, He is a Liar, he wants to loot. He wants to loot the little resources you are supposed to enjoy. Say no to Politics, comparing it, matching it with Religion to decieve people.

I am here today to let the Edo women know that when My husband is Elected to be president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, all these are going to be history

the insecurity, the girl child trafficking, suffering of the widows in the southeast will come to and end, there must be a design, a cultural design that can accommodate the widow, and then a design that will make a girl child feel comfortable wherever she is in this country, she doesnt need to leave her country to go and prostitute elsewhere, it is not her portion, her portion is to have a highly standard moral society for her to live, get married, have children, train them, train them and to support them to become the future of our Leaders.

We are here today, to also educate you, and to let you know the collection of PVCs is important, you collect your PVCs and dont sell it, dont ever sell it, dont ever sell it, its like selling your future, when you sell it for N5,000, you wont see N5,000 again until after 4 years which is too bad for you.

Get your PVC, Vote for APC, vote for Freedom, Vote for New Nigeria, vote security, vote education, vote healthcare, good roads and all the basic necessitates should be given to you.

I thank you all for being here this afternoon, being under the Sun for hours waiting to see me, thank you so much, i love you all.

Last week, we lost a sister, a mother, a former Woman Leader Mrs Modinat Omokwan May we have a one Minute silence for her.... May her Soul rest in Perfect Peace.

APC..... APC...... Edo... Nigeria..... God Bless you all.

Nigeria has become a nation of liars. Our people lie calmly and as if there is nothing wrong with lying. Imagine the guts with which a new political party would call a press conference and demand that INEC reschedules the election in order to accommodate it because a court had so ruled.

The press went agog reporting it and even congratulating that criminal outfit that masquerades as a political party -- YDP. It turned out that the court never made any such ruling. The infuriated judge, yesterday, held that political party leaders who held the press conference in contempt of court with a threat of jail term should they not hold another press conference, within 24 hours, retracting and recanting their prior press conference's content. Were this another judge who gives no rat ass about what goes on society, these liars would have probably coned INEC and jeopardized our democracy.

Nigerians think that lying in this manner is acceptable. Mrs Buhari's message was very clear, yet some pathologically lying Nigerians have not only distorted it but they have also fabricated their own heinous lies against her. But Nigerians, being used to lying, have bought into that lie and are repeating it. My disgust with Nigerians' behaviors is getting to the point that I am seriously thinking about completing severing my relationship with Nigeria. I cannot tolerate a people who are naturally intelligent but have chosen to act stupidly and shamelessly consistently.

Bolaji.

It is funny that all this time that the media has been excoriating and viciously attacking Patience Jonathan, you have never said a word.  And I am surprised that you would infer that you have never seen anything like what has been written about Aisha Buhari either in the U.S. or in Nigeria, and my question is which U.S. are you talking about.  Even your rendering of their curricula vitae shows your partiality.  At least, you should have blasted Patience Jonathan’s information the same way you did for Aisha Buhari.  That’s really taking sides

If Buhari didn’t have disdain for Nigerians, all he would have to do would be to just tender her birth certificate and quash the whole rumor, if it is.  By the way, Aisha Buhari looks younger than 45 years old.  It must be her genes.

Ogbuefi Chika:

Thanks for your email, but I don't really understand your objection to my intervention.

Madame Patience has been First Lady for six years now, and like all political wives, is exposed to the same shenanigans that all politicians are episodically exposed to.  She is particularly frequent fodder for comical parody - latest famous one is by Ali Baba -  but quite frankly she has held her own, and is clearly very popular in the hustings, giving as much as she takes.   She is doing a darned good job for her husband.   And any OUTRIGHT LIES against her have often been responded to very quickly by her camp....very quickly.

I have met her one on one for at least three times at Otuoke, and she is a charming woman.

But I never even knew about Aisha Buhari's existence and how she looked until a month ago.....and being a potential First Lady, I was intrigued by her outings.  First, I posted BOTH the biographies AND the fine pictures of Hajia Aisha and Dame Faka down below..what else can a man do to be balanced, and why do  you accuse me of blasting Aisha's profile/picture and leaving out the Dame's?  Secondly, whatever you or I believe, Aisha does smoothen out Buhari's austere image....if you know what I mean.  Don't mind Buhari if he says he won't have a First Lady - that was the first lie he spoke in error or more likely in haste, I think!  Who nor go show good fare?  Tufiakwa..

Moving on....

My latest intervention is a culmination of disgust piled upon disgust over the elections.......I have refrained largely from commentary on the elections, except commenting on the PVCs,  but even then, I believe that I have shown some pique at the trajectory of the elections in my brief comments.

Finally, by the way, you look younger than your 80 years old...I demand to see your birth certificate too!

And there you have it.

We are going through what may turn out to be the most expensive presidential election known to history . Many estimated that Goodluck Jonathan might have expended about $5billion ( a trillion naira ) on various gifts, bribes, adverts PR to some yanks and cronies in a country where salaries and allowances of the Federal Civil Servants have not been paid for months .

That "many" peddling the 'estimate' is no other person than you. It's all beer parlour rumour that you‎'ve been circulating without any proof or explanation. And how much is APC bribing with, if we may ask you?
You said it the other day that Jonathan had spent above the N1bn limit set by INEC. When we asked you to tell us how much APC had spent, you kept mute.
Your extreme partisanship doesn't allow you to weigh your opinions before you foul the atmosphere with them.

Afis comment: Dr Aluko, as usual, is pointing out Nigeria's shortcomings as Nigerians themselves. Only the myopic reader or one with paranoia, will see this write-up as bias against a political side. This is about Nigerians going too far with their lies and discarding Morals for despicability, all in the name of Politicking.

Nigerians learn books just to use what they learn in the worst of forms.
Blackmailing, lies, religious bigotry, character assassination, all for the love of Money but shrouded as Politicking.
Most of these politicians at one time lived in Europe or USA.
Some of them are frequent fliers abroad.
Some of them live lives of one leg in Nigeria and one leg over-the-seas.
But over the years you can still look them over and ask: "What really have you learned from those college degrees you claimed you earned at age 7"?
Hehehehehe!

It is a tough country-Nigeriana, if I say it once, I will say it a gazillion times.
It seems Nigeria is a breath of "Corrupted Air" that when sniffed, takes away the Morals of most men as they disembarked from an airplane and took baby-steps off the Tarmac, and as the corrupted wind blows its first air onto them.........The Frequent Fliers take the shape of the Host.

My advice: when going to Naija, buy an oxygen tank and mask!

Response:
I believe Edo women! Aisha Buhari was married to Buhari at age 9, thus was child molested and raped (statutory rape), Period!

Nobody is "spreading false and degrading rumors (such as insinuations about child rape) about Gen Buhari's marital life", it is a FACT. Buhari marriage is a backdrop to a child rapist that we just found out that Buhari is, when Mrs. Buhari opened her mouth. Mrs. Buhari is just as silly as her husband and Nigerians will REJECT both this Saturday, 03/28/2015.

Those of you who are very close to the Jonathan regime know the truth but keep twisting the fact for obvious reasons .

Wilson,
Why do you enjoy twisting every fact ?
Those who say one can't be a diehard supporter of Goodluck Jonathan and remain honest are indeed very right .

And those of you close to the opposition are telling the truth?? To you while deceiving yourself, it's only Jonathan that has spent more than N1bn on the campaigns. And it's only Jonathan that's bribing voters. You must think your reading audience is made up of Mumus.   You didn't think of the potential for "bribery" before you started boasting all along that you'd beat Jonathan? Why is it a hot-button topic for you now?
Yeye.

...Bolaji my brother, truth be told we are seeing these nastiness because for the first time pdp is now faced with a formidable opposition and at the cusp of an upset which to me was eight years late (remember Tinubu's 11th hour plane ride to Aso Rock in 2011?), hence, the kitchen sink syndrome!

And in spite of these expected nastiness, and bold faced lies from pdp and their pay-for-hire Internet hands, majority of discerning Nigerians (yours truly included) and the opposition APC, see them for what they are- a bunch of HOT AIR and obfuscations from a loosing clique!

Let's just hope they don't come up with another of their ill-conceived shenanigans this late in the game especially now that the world is watching Nigeria.

Let's hope so.

Thanks.
Arinze

If you had any atom of analytical sense, reading and analyzing Bolaji Aluko’s “Nastiness of these elections”, you will have realized his obvious partiality in favour of APC and no “neutrality” whatsoever. Why you two believe readers are that daft to see through your chicanery shows your bloated arrogance.

It’s a shame to be hunting with the hound and pretend to be running with the deer. Whatever happened to remaining true to thyself rather than play deceptive hands and call it, “neutrality”? Balderdash, it is.

Cheers.
