Do you have a video/audio of his presentation? I'd love to hear what Ogbeni was  speaking about.

His listeners , including the VP elect, seem to have this quizzical look on their faces --like heck what is this guy talking about?

Aregbesola went there to look at women's fine legs.He should also make better provisions so that girls in Osun state can also look beautiful as the ones he is admiring in that foto.

Before I go, has Aregbesola paid the 10 months salaries he is owing civil servants?

I have never heard that the Mayor of London came to the University of Ibadan or the University of Nigeria, or the University of Legon, of the Fourah Bay College, to address a European Summit. So, the question is why? Why do Africans do these things to themselves? Part of the issues in Africa is the continued "colonization" of the African mind. Achebe's retort to the Swedish academy in the 1980s that it was time for Africans to begin discussions of strategic African affairs in African capitals and institutions father than in foreign cities remains apt. These "summits" are jamborees, and they hardly speak to any strategic issues on Africa. But of course, people like Aregbesola do not yet get it. A man may occupy a high office, but only also act as a "veranda boy."

Chris the troubled Akwa Ibomite,

I am abiodun KOMOLAFE.

First and foremost, I salute you o!

That Aregbesola could even go the LSE to "look at women's fine legs" was something worthwhile.

As per the "payment of 10months salaries", I've always advised you to get your facts right before coming here to spew falsehood. To the best of my knowledge, Gov. Aregbesola is not owing any civil servant '10 months salaries.' Having said that, it's quite unfortunate that some people, somewhere; and for reasons best known to them, are preventing the governor from fulfilling his obligations to the civil servants. But, thank God: it is a matter of weeks before such an unpleasant experience becomes a thing of the past.

Ore, I think Osun experience calls for sober reflections, especially, from PheeDeePhee stalwarts and apologists like you. As we speak; though unfortunate, some Osun workers are being owed about 5months in salaries (that's to the best of my knowledge). But, come to think of it: despite this unfortunate incident, Osun workers still stood stoutly behind their governor during the last General Elections and massively voted for his candidates, beginning from Major General Buhari to HoA members. On the other hand, Benue State, which affairs is currently being piloted by PheeDeePhee's Gabriel Suswam, is owing its workers about 7months and PheeDeePhee has now paid dearly for it. Chris, that's one of the glaring differences between a man who acts true to his mission and others who hide under one guise or another to torment his people.

Again, as we speak, Ekiti and Kogi State lecturers are on strike, due to (their) governments' inability to pay their salaries. Have you forgotten that they are PheeDeePhee States? Ebonyi State is also there for Nigerians to behold and take stock. And, if I may ask: what's happening to civil servants in Akwa Ibom State, in spite of the 13% Derivation?

Haven't you also read that ASUU is spoiling for another war with the FG for its (FG's) inability to honour its pledge? Pensioners, too! In fact, the list is endless!

Sad indeed! Instead of reprimanding your PheeDeePhee leaders for deliberately starving APC States of funds, you're by what you know how to do best revealing your political icons' yansh. Anyway, the just-concluded General Elections have treated us to some 'Good Riddance' lessons. And we can't thank God enough!

May God save us from ourselves!

Obi Nwakanma:

The analogy that you are using to skeptically pooh-pooh Aregbesola's attendance at this Summit is not correct.

If the Federal University Otuoke School of Economics Europe Summit chooses to INVITE the Mayor of London and the PM-Elect of Britain and Germany to attend, and they agree, then is there a problem with that?

The fact of the matter  is that VARIOUS universities in Nigeria should take it upon themselves to develop expertise in KEY foreign countries or regions - Japan Studies (not necessarily language, but policy), Russian affairs, American Studies, etc., and INVITE experts from these countries periodically to their campuses to interact  with (graduate) students and scholars alike, to give some direction to how our country should relate with those countries, and give us a vista into how they are thinking in the future.    The University of Birmingham School of Oriental and African Studies has LONG been doing those kinds of things, as well as the  Institute for African Studies, RAS, Moscow, etc.

So the answer to "why (not)?" is not "colonization", but our scholarly lack of inattention to the world around us, leaving it all to the NIIA (Nigerian Institute of International Affairs), and certainly not only the Embassies in those countries,  to do all the heavy lifting.

And there you have it.

Biodun,
Don't trouble your mind. Buhari is coming in about a months time. He is the only magician that Nigerians have. I am so happy that Jega was able to rig the election for him. He is now in the front seat from 29th May 2015. Hope he will pay salaries in advance to workers, Concerning Aregbesola, he used civil servants salaries to bribe himself to winning the governorship election.

"Concerning Aregbesola, he used civil servants salaries to bribe himself to winning the governorship election."

Chris (not my friend),

I am abiodun KOMOLAFE.

Hmmnn! I hear you: success will always be a strange thing to those who've never succeeded.

But, if I may ask: have you read today's Punch? Why didn't the trillions which your GEJ of a president spent in bribing Nigerians to vote for him yield any dividends? I learnt somebody in the SW promised him 6million votes. What has now become of that promise? Even, Akpabio, your man who's alleged to have bribed an official to have his way as per his choice of governor-elect will certainly be unwilling to narrate, or relate his experience to you.

Lookia, ore! Leadership does not consist only in 'paying salaries before the end of the month'. Rather, it's about understanding your people's needs and doing that for which you're elected. Except for reasons which are not unconnected with 'Ija ilara' (whatever that means), you and I know that, unlike your PheeDeePhee leaders, Gov. Aregbesola has not disappointed the people of Osun and that's why we remain solidly behind him even in the face of FG-induced-yet-avoidable challenges.

Chris, there's more to learn about good governance from Osun.

May God save us from ourselves!

So, an Achebe who ran all the way to Brown University, Rhode Island, United States to "discuss" his own "strategic (African) literary affairs" yet had the effrontery to ask other Africans to do otherwise is now being celebrated within the context of "continued colonization of the African mind"? Na Wah!!!!!

I have never heard that the Mayor of London
came to the University of Ibadan or the University of
Nigeria, or the University of Legon, of the Fourah Bay
College, to address a European Summit. So, the question is
why? Why do Africans do these things to themselves? Part of
the issues in Africa is the continued
"colonization" of the African mind. Achebe's
retort to the Swedish academy in the 1980s that it was time
for Africans to begin discussions of strategic African
affairs in African capitals and institutions father than in
foreign cities remains apt. These "summits" are
jamborees, and they hardly speak to any strategic issues on
Africa. But of course, people like Aregbesola do not yet
get it. A man may occupy a high office, but only also
act as a "veranda boy."
