We are just moving from one embarrassment to another! What a country!

REVEALED: How Nigerian mission embarrassed Buhari before Pope Francis at UN meeting September 27 18:47 2015 👤by TheCable  0 Comments 4 Advertisement The Nigerian mission inexplicably messed up the itinerary of President Muhammadu Buhari at the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York on Friday, TheCable can report. The president missed a very important event on Boko Haram and internally displaced persons (IDPs) and was also prevented from meeting with Pope Francis because he was not properly briefed by the Nigerian UN mission staff. The pope delivered a speech at the general assembly on Friday at 10am. Not only was Buhari made to come in late to the meeting because of untidy arrangements, he also took a wrong gate rather than the one reserved for presidents and heads of state. He was subsequently prevented from seeing the pope by security operatives because of his late arrival. Buhari came in while other presidents and heads of government had already lined up to shake hands with the pope, and he was prevented by security operatives from joining in.‎ Presidency had sought to explain away the missed meeting as not being part of the official events lined up for the president. “The meeting at which Nigeria was reportedly absent was not one of the official events of the United Nations for which President Muhammadu Buhari and his modest delegation are in New York,” Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman, had said. But not only was it an official event, the focus was on the Lake Chad Basin and the effects of insurgency to which Nigeria’s full participation was expected. The listed UN events had the item: “The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will hold a side event on food security and humanitarian consequences of conflicts-driven displacement in the Lake Chad Basin region.” It was scheduled for 3pm US time (8pm Nigerian time), but ‎the president’s programme prepared by the Nigerian mission did not list it as one of the events he should attend. ‎The session was titled “Lake Chad Basin at A Cross Road: Addressing Urgent Humanitarian Needs in An Overlooked Crisis”. A high-level government representative of the Nigerian Government was expected to be at the event which was organised by the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and chaired by Stephen O’Brien, undersecretary-general of the UN.‎ Witnesses to both incidents described as “embarrassing and unacceptable” the attitude of the Nigerian mission staff which led to media backlash back home and on the social media. The witnesses also blamed the presidential media team for rushing to the press to defend ‎the president’s absence at a very crucial meeting whose discussion was on a matter in which Nigeria has been worst hit by the activities of the insurgents. Meanwhile, the event Buhari eventually attended in place of the one on the insurgency was not only poorly attended but was full of protocol breeches, as the president was already seated before other speakers started strolling in. My brother Joe,

This is the silly kind of measure GEJ was subjected while President, for example, Obama did not come to Nigeria because of him or that he was not received in the Blair House, as if this had been the case, Nigeria's fortune will suddenly change. Good if Buhari shakes hands with the Pope, but as it not to be, and so what!!!! Those President that shook hands with the Pope, what have become of them and their country since the handshake. When are we going to learn to be dispose of this kind of mentality?

There is some thing worrisome about this story. There is no way Prof Joy Ogwu would have taking the president through a wrong route as the heads of state have their routes. I do not for example believe Heads of States and governments were lined up to meet with the pope. Doubt it, more because its not the way the UN operates expect of things have changed since 2013 or 14 when l attended the UNGA last. The UNGA as an event is well planned months already and the engagements of the presidents secured and approved months ahead.

Some people want to embarass the Nigerian Mission to the UN unnecessarily. The American televisions covered Pope's visit to the UN. The Pope did not shake hand with Heads of States/Presidents. It is even unthinkable that Heads of States/ Presidents will line up to greet the Pope.

The bogus news reports we read from some Nigerian media outlet are making some of us to lose faith in Nigerian journalism. In the last 6 years, an estimated 60% of news reports were fabricated; about 35% are refuted as untruths in the next edition of the same or other news media; 25% are libelous; over 25 % is mis- or dis-information! And a whopping over 70% is distorted to slant the news left or right of the political, ethnic or regional interest of the proprietors! Thus, only about 10$ of Nigerian news reports can be taken to the bank at this point!!

Yes, press and media freedom is a good thing; but abusing this Nigerian privilege and descending into the abyss made-up news, misrepresentations and confusion is sheer debauchery, undignified and lack of integrity! It's unprogressive and dangerious to modern civilization! Take care. JUI [in question of integrity!]

I don't know if we should be embarrassed or not, but I would not be surprised if Buhari and his delegation were guilty as charged. It is now September 27, and I still don't know if I am in or out of Buhari's cabinet. And you don't know either who is in or who is out. We may all have to wait till September 31, 2015 or September 2016 for the announcement of the cabinet.

I tell you what. Why don't we assume that Buhari and any delegation would automatically mess up? So we look for surprises only when they don't mess up so we can cheer them? That is a deal.

I hear you. If the news is a bad reflection on some one we adore like Buhari, it is bug is news. If the news is a bad reflection on GEJ, it is never bogus news. But get this. If the news is patently bogus, and it is a bad reflection on any and everything Igbo, it is authentic news. In fact, any bogus news authored by Sowore and SaharaReporrters and some self-hating Goddamned Igbo that has a bad reflection on the Igbo is considered unadulterated genuine news by certified Igbo haters.

Yea. Any news about Buhari that does not flatter Buhari and Boko Haram is bogus news.

Joe Igietseme and My People:

"The Media" in general now comprises Print Media (Press), Social Media,  Radio and TV. In Nigeria, I have just listed them from "Most Dangerous" to "Least Dangerous" in their propensity to.

(1) fabricate news outright - ie lie completely - either out of a political vendetta/agenda (most often the reason), and/or for a fee;

(2) suppress news outright - ie ignore an event completely - either for a political agenda or for a fee (the latter is most often the reason)

(3). Embellish the news, either positively (if induced sufficiently) or negatively (if not sufficiently induced). Here, the news is x.true and (1-x).false at the same time!

It is only when it affects you DIRECTLY, when you know the truth of an event, and it is reported upaide-down, then you say "Haba!", and the reporter will tell you  "Oga...na the Editors o, not me...but you for see us now beforehand!"

The Press in Nigeria is the most dangerous, first because many ordinary Nigerians never bother to read beyond the headlines, and come IMMEDIATELY to their conclusions upon reading a headline at a newspaper stall, while all the other media often take their excerpts for discussion FROM the Print, since they do little independent leg-work themselves.

Next is Social Media, where everybody is reporter, editor and owner all wrapped into one, without any training whatsoever in any one of those aspects!

It is really pernicious, particularly in the pungent adversarial politics played down here in Nigeria. Furthermore, because very often, the Print news is syndicated - ie only one or two reporters may be present at an event but they sell their news to colleagues, who then embellish under their own bylines/names, it is best to read at least four to six different news items of the same story before coming to any conclusion.

That is a golden rule...so Joe Attueyi, take note, before nodding in an agreement to a news item for your own private reasons.

Bottom line is to understand that with respect to Nigerian @ress, our reporters are not well-paid; their editors are too sensation-prone; and their owners are too political....and all of that is not about to change soon.

And there you have it.

Dear Abba

There is actively funded propaganda (disinformation) mainly online industry at work, and they are not very professional at what they do or seek to accomplish, except tell enough lies often enough until it acquires the status of "truth" (Josef Goebbels)

Dining with these easily identified, known, and shameless elements of the "industry" (even when entertaining) requires a very long spoon

Nowa,

You are now the "professional liar", since "we" are not according to yours below - you are a professional liar, right? Wow!

Also, you are very sophisticated when it comes to propaganda, huh! Hehehehe!

What a shame, I can't even believe you would vomit this rubbish "Dining with these easily identified, known, and shameless elements of the "industry" (even when entertaining) requires a very long spoon"

Nowa, what fucking "industry" are you referring to? That of govt feeding your family with public money? Just asking!

Nowa, please identify the "industry" to which you are an advocate, if you dare? Who are the owners of this industry that you have created or telling us about? Use your sophistication, and appraise the "industry" for us that perhaps we (unsophisticated or unprofessional) know as the industry of "Buhari Buttlickers".

Nowa, what is your position in this industry, are you the Head MeGuard or Buttlicker In Thief?

Nowa, as a keeper of records, why don't you tell us how Buhari earned income to purchase the assets that Buhari declared as his assets. Let's see, Buhari has a house in Abuja, Buhari has a house in London, Buhari has a house in Daura, and Buhari has multiple more houses in multiple locations, and these assets were acquired from Buhari's salary as Army General, while another General in the fora is pleading poverty.

Nowa, I just would love to see you in the "act" buttlicking Buhari's. That would be fun to watch! Right?

Okay! Let's see you go to town on Buhari's ass. Am watching! Go for it!

Your take on "Josef Goebbels", is nothing but complete bullshit? Who is funding me?

Stay tuned for more "industry" lies.

No Regards!

The embarrassment here is a president with no team in place, who is globetrotting and collecting estacodes to pay off his presidential loan application. Has Buhari paid off his debt?

The embarrassment is how do we Nigerians justify LESS THAN one (1) person (15millions out of more than 170 millions) voted for a Despot and Jega declared him a winner.

The embarrassment is that a thief is the head of government and we can expect more thieves joining the head thief in chief. Tufiaka!

Joe,

Have I ever expressed an opinion about Sahara Reporters for you to be surprised if I call Sahara Reporters criminal-journalists? As far as I am concerned, the journalists that you have been helping to spread lies are criminal-journalists even Sahara Reporters. One hopes you and the criminal-journalists will change now that you have been called out. That is what I am concerned about.

That is a golden rule...so Joe Attueyi, take note, before nodding in an agreement to a news item for your own private reasons

Prof Aluko
Here you go again at your hypocritical best.

When Saharareporters published Atiku's house in MD USA to show he was corrupt and you posted the article to the forum AND appended Okonjo Iweala's house ( even though publicly available information showed she bought the house as a staff of the world bank), did you read '
at least four to six different news items of the same story before coming to any conclusion.' ?

This your desperation is NOT necessary.  My contacts have confirmed that you have been penciled down for one of the '6,000 positions ' remaining. It may or may not be the INEC position after your heart but it will be something.

Make you chill Oga mi. I am not the enemy. Just on capabilities alone, you deserve any appointment in Nigeria. No need for all manifest display of pink slips with holes in them.  Hehehehe

I second the motion, that it is unnecessary to go ask Sowore about anything that a Diaper Wearing Ezeana vomits, Ezeana's vomitus maybe due to his Igirigirigirigiri Epileptic condition.......Igirigirigirigiri Epilepsy in older people may cause uncontrollable jerking off from the mouth.
This old perennial fool, Ezeana, is not after Igbo fake journalists, he just slipped that into it maybe the wise Doctor would buy his dummy discounted sales. His focus is really Sowore and SaharaReporters who exposed Emeka Ugwuonye and rendered his supporters useless to themselves and Humanity at large.

Response: Above is very interesting to me and it almost connect (again, almost connect) a "dot" (something I was told by "insiders") that it was VC Aluko's SCHEME  (capabilities, as Joe Attueyi puts it) that Jega used to stratified the voters in such manner to devalue the voters and propel Buhari into office. Now, Joe Attueyi is telling us that VC Aluko desires INEC position when Joe Attueyi says as follow: "It may or may not be the INEC position after your heart but it will be something." Wow! If only una know what Joe Attueyi has said or saying intended or unintended with regards to INEC and VC Aluko "influence" at INEC.

Am told that Jega was advised to stratified the voters, as below to devalue the people's power to re-elect JONA. It makes sense now why INEC results was as follows:
Quote
No. of Valid Votes           28,587,564
No. of Rejected Votes   844,519
No. of Votes Cast             29,432,083
No. of Accredited Voters              31,746,490
No. of Registered Voters              67,422,005
Unquote

Folks, above is 5 different categories (stratifications) that INEC used to commit fraud and Joe Attueyi has provided to us (or to me) and to those collecting data in silence a potent datapoint or insight to those who knows that a nugget was let loose by Joe Attueyi's take, intended or not.

Folks, Jega with help from "some" with "capabilities" took 67millions "registered voters" (as above) and reduced it to 15 millions votes to Buhari, a reduction of almost 77 percent of the pool of registered voters. Wow! Talk about genius!

Lord have mercy! as we wait to see the new position of VC Aluko under Buhari administration, moving on up, good for you.

John,
the following  should put to rest the false story of how Mr President was embarrassed at the UNGA. You would recall that when the story  was first published, l questioned its authenticity and actually said that there was a lot wrong with the story . What l find difficult to understand is what is gained  or who gains from these false reports that now pervade  the internet and social media.  Even more troubling is that some of our national newspapers particularly Punch lift such false stores without. cross checking the facts.
The Head of the Nigerian mission in NY, Prof Joy Ogwu, a former DG of NIIA, former Foreign Minister is a very serious minded lady and a perfectionist to the core  working with some of the most dedicated diplomats Nigeria has produced. For one who has handled a couple of presidential visits and has been in the presidents delegation too, it is challenging and  as such, missions spend months, weeks and days in preparation to ensure that  nothing goes wrong not to talk of the UN that has a  well established  culture of  handling so many heads of state and governments at the same time annually.
In the final analyses, it is the authors of  the report,  their paymasters and supporters that should be ashamed of what they have done to innocent and hard working people. They might have the power r of the pen and platform to hurt people, they have demonstrated  however, how unprofessional, ignorant and intellectually lazy they are.

, I wish to state clearly that as the Officer in charge of the General Assembly who has been handling the President's Programme (as part of my schedule in the Mission), I can confidently respond that there is no iota of truth in the reports.

For instance, it was reported that Mr. President arrived late at the General Assembly Hall when Pope addressed World Leaders.

This is false. Mr. President arrived promptly to all events in which he was scheduled to attend, including to the GA Hall for Pope Francis' address. He arrived well ahead of Pope's address and he listened to the address.

I can confirm this because I led him and our principals to all events in the UN Headquarters. Besides, anyone who so wishes can obtain and verify this through the video coverages of these events by the Media  Department of the UN.

The issues raised in these misleading news reports confirm that the writers do not understand how the UN works, especially during the High-Level segment of the annual UNGA.

It is necessary to explain that transport arrangements for Heads of State that are in New York for UNGA right from their arrivals at the airport, are always handled by host authorities. For security and other reasons, Missions are traditionally not involved in this arrangement. Besides, additional cars (non of which is meant for Mr. President) are arranged directly by SH Protocol and controlled by them but such vehicles are not allowed into UN premises.

For clarity, only the 3 vehicles that are provided by host authorities are allowed into the UN Premises: The lead vehicle containing security and other relevant officers of host authorities, the President's car in the middle and the rear vehicle, which can accommodate very limited passengers.

Therefore, news relating to the Mission and the issue of Mr. President's car or convoy are misleading.

By the bearing of these malicious reports, it is evident that the writers are ignorant that although there are 193 VIPs (Heads of State) that are expected at the annual event, who participate simultaneously and who move around by convoy simultaneously, host authorities have thus far coordinated the transportation arrangement and logistics efficiently. Therefore, instead of indicting the Mission, these misleading reports are  indicting the relevant US authorities who have always coordinated these arrangements efficiently.

It was also reported that some members of delegation were not admitted to some events. The reporters are "very" ignorant that limited passes are issued for each country for access to UN events, especially during the High-Level segment of the annual UNGA. The UN system works almost perfectly to ensure that those who gain access to any of the events must have the required passes.

I am very much aware that our Permanent Secretary, the PR and  SCOP drew up a schedule (as approved by Mr. President) to ensure that only the required number of officials attend such events. I am aware that the schedule for each day is circulated to members of the delegation in the previous night. I am also aware of their efforts to guide/advise members of the delegation appropriately.

On a different but related issue, I like to add that I heard the Head of Chancery of the Mission "lamenting" seriously this morning that the Mission is yet to receive any allocation to facilitate its preparations for this year's UNGA. I can also confirm that the Mission (as coordinated by the Head of Chancery) accredited every official on the list of Mr. President's delegation, which was received by SH.

Above it all, the successful delivery of Mr. President's "message-ful" address at the General Debate yesterday is the high point of his activities in New York. At the end, leaders who gathered to congratulate and appreciate him cut across different continents.

Indeed, there are more verifiable and incontrovertible facts that could be raised to address the misleading information in these false reports 'flying around."

Ezeana:

In the Bible's Book of Matthew,  Chapter 5, verse 33ff, we read:

QUOTE

33“Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

UNQUOTE

So re-phrase your diatribe, if you are not to be called names like "The evil one."

And there you have it.  I trust that you understand.

VC Aluko:

I understand well well. I was never expecting you or anyone to swear with Ezeana on stage. Unless they are absolutely sure that they are saying the absolute truth. Igadi o.
