I don't know if we should be embarrassed or not, but I would not be surprised if Buhari and his delegation were guilty as charged. It is now September 27, and I still don't know if I am in or out of Buhari's cabinet. And you don't know either who is in or who is out. We may all have to wait till September 31, 2015 or September 2016 for the announcement of the cabinet. I tell you what. Why don't we assume that Buhari and any delegation would automatically mess up? JUI: I hear you. If the news is a bad reflection on some one we adore like Buhari, it is bug is news. If the news is a bad reflection on GEJ, it is never bogus news. But get this. If the news is patently bogus, and it is a bad reflection on any and everything Igbo, it is authentic news. In fact, any bogus news authored by Sowore and SaharaReporrters and some self-hating Goddamned Igbo that has a bad reflection on the Igbo is considered unadulterated genuine news by certified Igbo haters. Yea. Any news about Buhari that does not flatter Buhari and Boko Haram is bogus news. |

Joe Igietseme and My People:
"The Media" in general now comprises Print Media (Press), Social Media, Radio and TV. In Nigeria, I have just listed them from "Most Dangerous" to "Least Dangerous" in their propensity to.
(1) fabricate news outright - ie lie completely - either out of a political vendetta/agenda (most often the reason), and/or for a fee;
(2) suppress news outright - ie ignore an event completely - either for a political agenda or for a fee (the latter is most often the reason)
(3). Embellish the news, either positively (if induced sufficiently) or negatively (if not sufficiently induced). Here, the news is x.true and (1-x).false at the same time!
It is only when it affects you DIRECTLY, when you know the truth of an event, and it is reported upaide-down, then you say "Haba!", and the reporter will tell you "Oga...na the Editors o, not me...but you for see us now beforehand!"
The Press in Nigeria is the most dangerous, first because many ordinary Nigerians never bother to read beyond the headlines, and come IMMEDIATELY to their conclusions upon reading a headline at a newspaper stall, while all the other media often take their excerpts for discussion FROM the Print, since they do little independent leg-work themselves.
Next is Social Media, where everybody is reporter, editor and owner all wrapped into one, without any training whatsoever in any one of those aspects!
It is really pernicious, particularly in the pungent adversarial politics played down here in Nigeria. Furthermore, because very often, the Print news is syndicated - ie only one or two reporters may be present at an event but they sell their news to colleagues, who then embellish under their own bylines/names, it is best to read at least four to six different news items of the same story before coming to any conclusion.
That is a golden rule...so Joe Attueyi, take note, before nodding in an agreement to a news item for your own private reasons.
Bottom line is to understand that with respect to Nigerian @ress, our reporters are not well-paid; their editors are too sensation-prone; and their owners are too political....and all of that is not about to change soon.
And there you have it.

VC Aluko: I spotted some fake news outfit that fits all 3 of your descriptions to a tee. What do you think of Sowore and SaharaReporrters and some Godforsaken Igbo who parade as journalists? Do they fabricate news? Do they suppress news as when they were unable to write anything about the CBN royal heist? Do they embellish news as when Yinka was their flunkie who always caught this senator or this Minister with Nzillions hidden in their latrines? I say they are guilty of all 3. JUI: No sweat. People who think Buhari is all that will not believe any negative news about him, even if it true. People who hate Buhari and Boko Haram will believe any negative news about Buhari, even if it is really untrue. Here is Buhari's growing problem. More folks who thought Buhari was all that and would not believe any negative news about him, even if the new was true, are taking a second look at Buhari. They are joining the ones who believe every negative news about Buhari, even if it is a lie. And some even think that Buhari is a liar. |

Joe: Gba brake. Buhari has not appointed Prof. Joy Ogwu to anything. Besides, Buhari appointed only people he trusts. If Buhari trusted Prof. Ogwu, he would have appointed her. And since he did not trust her, he did not trust the entrance door Prof. Ogwu recommended. What has Prof. Ogwu to lose? Okonjo already forgot that there is a country named Nigeria. And Prof.. Ogwu can't wait for September 31, when Buhari unveils his own version of looters. If he misses the traditional September 30 month end, September 31 will be the date to remember for a long time. |

REVEALED: How Nigerian mission embarrassed Buhari before Pope Francis at UN meeting September 27 18:47 2015 👤by TheCable 0 Comments 4 Advertisement The Nigerian mission inexplicably messed up the itinerary of President Muhammadu Buhari at the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York on Friday, TheCable can report. The president missed a very important event on Boko Haram and internally displaced persons (IDPs) and was also prevented from meeting with Pope Francis because he was not properly briefed by the Nigerian UN mission staff. The pope delivered a speech at the general assembly on Friday at 10am. Not only was Buhari made to come in late to the meeting because of untidy arrangements, he also took a wrong gate rather than the one reserved for presidents and heads of state. He was subsequently prevented from seeing the pope by security operatives because of his late arrival. Buhari came in while other presidents and heads of government had already lined up to shake hands with the pope, and he was prevented by security operatives from joining in. Presidency had sought to explain away the missed meeting as not being part of the official events lined up for the president. “The meeting at which Nigeria was reportedly absent was not one of the official events of the United Nations for which President Muhammadu Buhari and his modest delegation are in New York,” Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman, had said. But not only was it an official event, the focus was on the Lake Chad Basin and the effects of insurgency to which Nigeria’s full participation was expected. The listed UN events had the item: “The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will hold a side event on food security and humanitarian consequences of conflicts-driven displacement in the Lake Chad Basin region.” It was scheduled for 3pm US time (8pm Nigerian time), but the president’s programme prepared by the Nigerian mission did not list it as one of the events he should attend. The session was titled “Lake Chad Basin at A Cross Road: Addressing Urgent Humanitarian Needs in An Overlooked Crisis”. A high-level government representative of the Nigerian Government was expected to be at the event which was organised by the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and chaired by Stephen O’Brien, undersecretary-general of the UN. Witnesses to both incidents described as “embarrassing and unacceptable” the attitude of the Nigerian mission staff which led to media backlash back home and on the social media. The witnesses also blamed the presidential media team for rushing to the press to defend the president’s absence at a very crucial meeting whose discussion was on a matter in which Nigeria has been worst hit by the activities of the insurgents. Meanwhile, the event Buhari eventually attended in place of the one on the insurgency was not only poorly attended but was full of protocol breeches, as the president was already seated before other speakers started strolling in. I think it is probably a safe bet that you should stick to the competition for the Chief MeGuard job (where you may have a non-zero probability of success....assuming you are able to snatch defeat from John Ebohon's jaws of victory-:)))).
