Remembering Chinua Achebe 86

Chinua Achebe is on my mind today. He would have turned 86 today - November 16. As I thought about him, my mind went to a little reflection I penned down about him and his work a few years ago. Achebe was one of Africa's treasured assets...the continent's best known and most widely read writer...He still is despite his death on March 21, 2013, and some vigorous (but futile) attempts to diminish him...He remains the Eagle on the Tallest Iroko... 
Despite my great admiration for his work, however, I did not share all his views. For instance, I remained vehemently opposed to his views on Christianity (which he shared with a number of African and non-African intellectuals), which I believe were mostly based on very wrong observations and interpretations instead of a genuine encounter with and experience of the real thing. That, however, is a matter for another day...
